hmm. so threw the p0333 code this weekend. Brought it to my shop, used a scope and said the pigtails looked fine (no damage from rats or anything) and suggested I bring the truck to toyota to look at it and possibly replace the knock sensor under warranty.

Dropped it off yesterday. Initially they said its probably a bad knock sensor so they'll file the warranty claim to repair it. Today, I get a call and they said they found a rats nest near the knock sensor and that rats chewed through the main harness which is causing the P0333 CEL and so they need to replace the entire harness. Suggested I call insurance to have them come out so they can show them the damage and it can be done under a claim.

I asked them for pictures and they said they can take a picture of the nest but in order to show the harness damage, they need to spend 12 hours of labor to remove the top half of the engine just to view the harness.

Anyone ever have a similar issue? I'm tempted to just take the truck back, pay the diagnostic fee, and let my normal shop handle the work. I dont know why but I don't really believe them since there were no other issues with the truck. Drove fine (except that it was in limp mode due to the code). Only error was P0333. If rats ate through the harness, I'd expect my dash to light up like a christmas tree, or at least get more error codes.

 

I wouldn't let the dealer do work on my truck if it's not warranty work. Even then it depends what it is.

 

@rob1208 Do you have an Ultragauge? I keep getting a 'gas cap' code about once every 2 weeks and clear it with my Ultragauge. I'm like 90% sure its just the fuel tank pump cap not on tight enough, causing a slight pressure leak when its cold out.

 

I didn't skateboard.. but I have known John Ponts since I was a kid, so maybe I get a little cool by association. Haven't seen him since he moved to Alaska, except on that TV show about Alaskan bush pilots.

 

yup, i do. I cleared the code 3 times driving home (it popped on when I was leaving Spicer Reservoir last weekend) and then again the next day before I took it to the shop. The code came back immediately. I verified the gas cap when I gassed up on the way home.

going to end up taking the truck back and just going to my shop. I trust them and if insurance is paying anyways, I'd rather they get the money.

The conspiracy theory side of me thinks its really just a failed knock sensor but toyota wanted to make money by making my insurance pay for them to remove the top half of the engine bay so they can access the sensor instead of filing the warranty claim.

 

Hmmmm. You could always crawl around the truck yourself and verify engine bay wiring like they say

 

I did intially and saw nothing. I'll ask them to point out exactly where they found it when I pick up the truck. They claim it was near the knock sensor so you can't see it without using a scope or some sort of mirror to get in between

The forunna got some new wheels and tires today, 265/75/16 cooper st/maxx and some ray10s. I'm stoked I have wanted These tires on something for a while ever since I saw @tacomgee truck. I was going to get it aligned but there's HELLLA play in my lbj so those are getting replaced pronto, I would upload the video of them but fuck I'm lazy.

my first board was a tony hawk
my second or third board was a double vision. I was one of the first kids in my area to skate a board with the nose and tail identical.Man i wish i had a few of my old boards. the tony hawk i rode until it snapped the double vision my friend got it ran over by a car and few others i just cant remember what they were.
Those were some good times.

 

I once did a faceplant on my old green plastic GT skateboard when I was like 8. Face to asphalt. It really fucking hurt. I had a big old scab right under my nose that made me look like this:



Shortly thereafter, I stuck to BMX, gave up skateboarding, and began dabbling in genocide.
