I am pretty attracted to this Tacoma (2001, 4x4, TRD OR Package, mostly stock, 5 speed manual). Seems like the perfect package and low miles (115,000). Seller is asking 13,500.

Looks clean from the pictures! But what do you all think on the price? KBB is around 8500, but tacomas definetly seem to fetch a higher market price.

I think if the frame and underside is rust free he will probably get his asking price for that truck. Many will say that is way overpriced, but 1st gens with low milage are getting harder to find.

I bought my '04 TRD 4x4 5 speed manual in March for $17k with 24,000 on the odometer. Dealer was originally wanting $20k but I talked them down closer to KBB value. It was a Toyota dealership, not a private party so it was easier to "negotiate" (aka got up to walk out numerous times until they came down).

Honestly for a private party sale that seems on the high end but considering how rare well-maintained, low mileage first gens are (and how popular they are) that seems like a fair price for the market. Maybe offer him something closer to $11k and see what he says, but if you really want it be prepared to spend what he's asking.

Mine was an Arizona truck all it's life too, the frame looks brand new. One of the good things about Tacomas out here in the southwest, and another reason to consider paying a premium.

Negotiate the price down some if you can and buy it!....then stay away from Tacoma world because you will double the cost of your rig adding suspension, superchargers and endless mods. :D

Truth  Fortunately mine came with all the performance mods I figured I'd need... a supercharger, TRD headers/exhaust :D

Little did I know how sucked into the world of off-roading I would get though, now I've ordered sliders and getting ready to order my suspension lift/upgrade soon. Then I need to order fuel upgrades for the supercharger........the list never ends.

Did ya pick a certain suspension set-up yet or still deciding? I wish I would have just bit the bullet and got in with the OME GB that just went down.

Start with like 11 maybe 11,5. I think for that price you could get a double cab.

seems a bit high to me, honestly I would offer less and see what the seller has to say. Then I would wait to make my decision and it would sell in the mean time and I would end up kicking myself for missing out on the truck.

Honestly just talk to the seller and see if you can negotiate a lower price, what is he going to say? You never know if you don't ask.

I paid 18k in December of last year for a 2004 TRD SR5 Dbl Cab with 97,000mi on it and I knew I was paying too much but the thing was pristine in every way and it was what I had been looking for for over 9 months. Out here in the west (NV) with the dry climate frame rust is a non-issue and besides that these are very popular vehicles and I know because there were 3 other people highly interested in it if I didn't take it.

Bottom line is it will lose a certain amount of value over the years but you cannot go wrong with a Toyota if it's properly maintained and taken care of. I also own an '05 Corolla with 342,000mi and it runs like a dream getting over 35mi to the gallon still!

I shopped my ass off for first gens a year ago and that person will probably get asking price and very quickly. I saw many very similar to that one with prices between 13k and 19k. Test drove one who was asking 15.9k and he wouldn't budge more than a couple hundred bucks. Clean low mileage first gens are a fucking cut throat market. Especially the 5 speed 4x4 Xcabs, double cabs are WAY more common. You better have cash in hand and be ready to make a deal because that persons phone is ringing off the hook. If I saw that truck when I was shopping I would have offered $13k then if they didn't budge paid asking price on the spot.

Yeah KBB value on these things is really just there to make us feel guilty for paying more than what it is lol. It really is a cut throat market for these things. I got lucky finding mine through a Toyota dealer a few months ago because they want used cars/trucks off their lots as quickly as they can to make room for the next one, so I was able to negotiate a bit more. But they also knew they could try and get me for more in the finance department, and they did...I reluctantly opted for the 60k mile extended warranty knowing that I was buying a 12 year old truck that despite it's low mileage, could still be prone to issues. It's come in handy a couple times already for some small things, and the peace of mind is worth it to me. So yeah, after taxes, fees and the ext warranty I spent just over $20k on my '04.

But a brand new TRD Offroad Tacoma 4x4 would close to twice that so I still feel it was worth every penny, plus I got a first gen which I personally like the looks of a lot more than the new Tacomas, not to mention I don't want or need all the new features and bells and whistles.

With car shopping, the "it never hurts to ask" saying is more true than ever. When I bought our VW we had reached "rock bottom" on pricing, as it was down to "invoice." I was ready to buy, but on a whim I thought of asking the dealer to split the sales tax with me, knowing they wouldn't. They couldn't take off tax since it was a sale...but they took $800 more off the sale price to appease me.

If you think it should be a lower price, ask. If you don't, ask anyway. Worst thing you hear is no, don't be afraid to haggle!

My dad has a 2000 TRDOR 4X4 with under 60,000 miles, he could easily sell it for $15K. If it has a clean title and has been taken care of, I'd say go for it.

I was asking for a friend. He let it pass. I would have picked it up myself if I didn't already have a Tacoma

PreRunners can be had considerably cheaper than 4WD models. It's a $2000+ premium in my experience...

Here in CA, Double Cabs go in hours. I had a lead on one in PHX and one in OR, and would go that far to get it.

We missed out on 4 of them
    All were 150k-180K miles.

    One sold for 9700$
    One sold for $12,500
    One sold for $13,888

All of these sold in 6-7 hours.

I had deposit on two, and they STILL sold from under us.

CLEAN, Double cabs, first gen go in hours.

Yeah you really have to source them out, I still think y'all got a good deal nonetheless. My DC we got about 5 years ago for 11 w/ 150k at the time. My truck was only on the lot for less than a week but was really hidden in a ford dealership right next to our Toyota dealer we use for service.
