Been tryin to think of ideas on how to update the look of my '03 dc and was wondering if anybody had looked into what it would take to put 2nd gen front clip or fenders on a 1st gen (01-04)..? I know 2nd gens are a little bigger but I can't imagine the fender (flares) are a whole lot bigger.

Front clip seems a little tougher. I'm sure you'd have to section out a few inches of everything to get it to fit width wise.

I'm sure most will say it's not worth the time/money/effort which is probably true but I've wondered what my truck would look like with with either or both done to it.

I'm also sure I'll be told to buy a 2nd gen if I want my truck to look like a 2nd gen but the fact that I like my truck and don't have the dinero to fork out for a 2nd gen means that clearly isn't an option.

Anyways, thanks for any and all replies. If you've found another option to updating the look of your 1st gen feel free to share.

Retrofits and satoshi completely change the look of that front end. Ive seen somewhere somebody put a fiberglass 2nd gen front end for lt onto an lt 1st gen. It looked alright but the body lines didn't match the best.

Yeah I've seen the satoshi grills and retrofits. I'm sure I'll end up with one if not both of them eventually. I was just hopin somebody somewhere had at least looked into what it would take to convert to newer style Tacoma front clip (and/or fenders). Similar to how many older taco and 4Runner owners have done the 01-04 taco front clip conversion.

maybe end up with what a 2004.5 woulda looked like.

Cole Brown did the 2nd gen swap on his 1st gen LT truck... with the wider front end of LT, it looked awesome... on stock suspension, it would probably look goofy...

Man I think it looks pretty good! Is the owner here on tw? I'd like to pick his brain a little bit.

Btw your dcab has been one of my favorite trucks on here long before I ever joined.

Well I wouldn't go with a fiberglass wide body set up either so it wouldn't be un proportionate. I'm sure people thought 01-04 conversion would be ugly too before somebody did it right. Shoot I even thought all 2nd gen's were butt ugly too when they first came out. They've grown on me quite a bit!

Just lookin for somethin different to set my truck apart ya know. Might head out to an auto yard to take some measurements for shits and giggles.

Cole used to be a member. His truck got hit by some lady who ran a red light or something. The truck is long gone.

Look for him on Facebook. You can hit him up there. Search "Cole Browne"

I think the 2nd gen is wider than the 1st gen either way, so it would be a lot of modification to get it to fit.

An old forum member Cody did a 4runner front end swap on his 1st gen dcab. That actually looked great and lined up easier from what i recall.

that truck is long gone too though and i don't think Cody has a Facebook page.

i think his old screen name was @nakedcst or something like that...
