Secondary air filter removal, K&N drop in, Removed front mud flaps, Toyota all weather matts, skid plate, bug guard. Bilstein 5100's all around fronts set at 2.5", OME add a leaf, Goodyear Wrangler Authority 265/70/17, stubby 6.5" antenna, smoked tail lights, blacked out badges.

My point is that fuel octane can increase horsepower. If you read my previous posts you would see that I wasn't boasting of the outrageous gains in power you would get. Of course the supercharger is the only way to get significant gains, but not everyone is willing to dump $4,000 on one plus the cost of install. Even a bump of 10 hp would be noticeable. Everyone has been looking for a way to eek more power out of the engines used in these trucks since the day they were designed. VolcomTacoma posted proof that it can be done. I posted proof that octane rating has an effect on power. You "aren't sure" how much the Tacoma ecu can adjust the timing for 91 yet you blast me for not referencing timing? I'm really not trying to make an argument, but it seems to me that you are taking this personal some how. My last Taco was the 2.7 and the one thing I did to try to make a difference was remove the secondary air filter. Power increase. No. Better throttle response. Yes. There are some things you can do to these trucks to slightly improve how they drive without throwing $5000 at it. You wont get a ton of power, but noticeable. If my references aren't up to your standards please point me in a better direction and I will dig there in order to better educate myself about the subject.

I don't have a reference on here, and I've never seen one on here, for the 1GR 91 versus 87 octane. I do have tons however for most power mods people try. My point was watch out what you post from Wikipedia. These trucks may or may not make more power with 91 because we don't know if the ECU can even recognize and advance the timing to take advantage of it. The Tacoma, from official sources, never advertised that it could.

If you check out some of my posts I mention Tooters graphs for the 4 banger in the Tacoma. Feel free to read away. He gets at much of what you are saying.

Powerwise, per actual HP realized, the TRD Supercharger was not a bad deal at all. Down low it was much better than NA and up top it added ~70 HP. Not a bad gain for $57/HP. Try finding another mod that makes that sort of gain that can be proved on a dyno. It's hard. Yes it's expensive, but the results are really noticible unlike a lot of mods. Other than the URD NA kit there is nothing that cheap and the URD NA kit has a lot to do with the UCON tuning.

And, USUALLY, 10% is the figure given before you will notice a HP gain. 10 HP is negligible unless, like you said, there is a chance in where the torque comes into play earlier on.

Sorry if I came off personal. I definitely get a bit riled up when I see people quoting Wikipedia for information.

It's cool. I don't care what the other guys here say. You're alright in my book. By the way your truck is sick as hell.

@Sterdog I can't find the thread, but I know I saw a thread where some guy dyno'd his truck with 87 and 91 and kept the conditions as close as possible and netted about 9hp on his strongest run. I know on my Prerunner 91 always felt like it had a little more pep to my butt dyno

It's possible. 9 HP is fairly small to feel though on a 230 HP engine. Maybe added on to some other mods you'd get a change that would show up tangibly in the real world.

I know when I was stock I felt the difference in idle between 87 and 91 but I never was able to get a change in power in any measurable way.

On a side note I owned a Nissan Juke that could run and adjust it's tune between 87 and 91. You could clear as day tell what was in the tank. No iffy reaction at all.

If the engine gets a vacuum leak, you'll certainly feel a LOSS of power. Shitty gas? Timing is pulled. You'll feel that loss of power. Does it not work in the opposite then?

    http://urdusa.com/store/Exhaust-&-H...GR-FE,-Tacoma,-2012-2015-V6/product_info.html

What is the relative limit of a "discernable difference"? Subjective to the person, but you'd be pretty sensationally numb not to feel that kind of gain.

Well the dude has spent more time milking power out of a 1GR than some of us have playing with the internet.

I did catch him on something once though and I felt like a god lol.

You spend most of your time above 3,500 RPM when in 4x4?? Seriously? I don't spend any time over 3,500 RPM... ever. 4x4 or paved road.

You talking to me? Hell no. I pass everyone. I've got 33" tires and 4.56 Gears. I do 3,200 RPM cruising at 75-80 MPH.

If you're actually doing off-road driving (I'm not talking dirt roads) you're not accelerating fast enough to be punching it past 3,500 RPM. At least not in my somewhat limited experience. Can't say I exceeded 3,500 RPM in Moab (Poison Spider Mesa, Fins N Things, Top of World, etc).

In my experience, 50-60% throttle and WOT I accelerate at roughly the same speed.

EDIT: I could see spending time over 3,500 RPM if you were Baja Racing though...
