TacoSTIG: PNW MT Build

Build Update:
I need front ballast and I need it bad. So, to kill a few birds with one stone it was time to mount up this fancy lookin contraption.



Time to make better use of this space.


GTFO power steering reservoir.


Twenty minutes later... cramped hands and crushed fingers finally inched the two hidden bolts down.


As pointed out by @Nate87 these compressors put off some intense heat so the plastic line between the locker manifold may not cut it for the long run. I'll be upgrading to braided once I put it through it's paces and make sure I'm happy with the location etc. This is only the beginning of a very weird, overly complicated, and rather goofy oba project.

Next up, wiring.

Is the road clear the whole way? Or some snowy spots still? That switch back section about halfway is always dicey with snow on it.

 

There were a handful of drifts remaining in the upper switchback but all were passable. Will be out towards meadow mtn this weekend in hopes to make it to one of my usual spots just hope the trail is clear. On that note have you ever fished Stirrup Lake?

 

We need to go to funny rocks asap. Put the skids on and you'll be ready

 

About 5 yrs ago my friends and I drove to the top turn around and hiked the summit and made a few turns in the snow on the hill.

Never heard of stirrup lake.

 

While at that spot six solo bc riders hiked through, wasn't expecting to see that many people up there. I was pretty jealous, looked like a decent bowl. Stirrup lake is small spot, I've been looking for somewhere low key to catch some dinner and camp for the night.

Was planning on getting the ifs skid on tonight but I'm seriously getting peeved at trying to get work done in the rain. So, been working on the CB a bit.

 

I needed a CB mount and nothing on the market sparked my interest. So, I spent $6 on some steel bar, robbed my office chair of a foot rest adjustment knob, and got to work.



To keep the antenna from bouncing around in the down position I purchased a few of these, still waiting for them to come in for testing.


Next up:
-Final touches to the mount, paint/polish.
-Finalize Coax cable routing.
-Grounding... strap from mount to roof? maybe try using a rack mount bolt?
-And, finally figure out where I want to put this puppy.

Thanks Brian, there are actually a few out there that let you swivel the antenna but each one posed a different issue.
Most of them are built like the comet below, I needed the antenna and the knob to be on the same side to clear the rack.
Even if I flipped the bracket on the Comet it wouldn't allow a 90 degree rotation.





So, I took the comet idea into Maya, simplified the design, then ran with it.

Haha thanks man, that's quite a few pages to dig through. The parts hoarding was mostly the result of jumping on deals that were in line with my long term build goals. The pile of goods grew pretty quick, but most of the stuff had to wait until I addressed other parts of the build. Then came the lack of free time, etc etc. Been having a great time with it and stoked to see it all come together.
