I would order sliders soon, due to the wait time of those. I went with MobTown and couldn't be happier. If you are doing any armor, RCI has good stuff. I only went with the front skid personally, but all those things will take time, so you might start investing in those sooner than later.

Howzit brother. I was checking out the RCI armor what do you think about the transmission and gas tank skids? As well as do you think the front skid will pair with the Fabfours Vengeance front bumper? I'm digging the premium rear bumper from Fab too.

Some sound advice has already been given. I'm on Oahu and only go up to the Kuhukus with the dirt bikes. My build has been perfect for what I do with it.

    I'm running Icon stage III with UCA's, ko2 285's.

Check with Icon for the Deaver leaf kit. It has excellent reviews. I'm running the Icon add-a-leaf with the load leaf removed. It's good for flex but it increases axle wrap in my opinion.

I have learned over the years with various vehicles that an exhaust and intake rarely provides better performance. The only way you can max it out on a Tacoma is through tuning and a super charger which is not available.

Bottom line its up to you what you want your build to look like.

Another good piece of advice I saw someone mention about the rock sliders is order them now. I ordered from mobtown a while back and they're finally in transit. The good thing about mobtown is he knows how to crate the sliders for shipment to HI. It does take a while though. The sliders are quality and can support the weight of the truck, not like some bullshit step bars that get ripped off when wheeling.

Another lift kit you might want to look into is the the OME BP-51's. If I had it to do over I would've seriously considered getting these instead of Icon.

    Cheers

Sliders are the first investment IMO you should make when planning on wheeling because one small hickup and you're out a ton of money getting rocker panels replaced, potential door(s) and windows and things will never really line up like they do from the factory once all this is done.

Next is a lift. 2-3" is all you need. If you want to armor the truck, go with 886 coils. They're stiffer and will soften up once you start loading the truck down with armor it'll sit at the correct height. Any springs under that and you will lose lift height. A good shock, coil and leaf pack and you are all set.

Next is tires, don't go Load E, you'll waste your money. You're not going to roll a bead or need a sidewall like that in these trucks, they're way too light to worry about all that. You'll just kill your MPG and wallet. 265/75-16 or 255/85-16, depending on what you like. I am not sure what the soil is like in Hawaii, but wider is not always better depending on your terrain.

A plate bumper front and back is good, don't go aluminum if you plan on wheeling, it'll never take the abuse. There are tons out there, and they're all pretty damn great. Look for a group buy and save a ton of $$$ in shipping. There are full plate bumpers, hybrid and tube, almost all can handle a winch no problem.

Don't get a CAI, they're a huge waste on money on fuel injected motors. Fuel injection actually prefers hot air over cold, check out hot air injections for fuel injected motors, you'd be shocked. Also, a CF driveshaft IMO is a waste of money too. If you want to build a racetruck, go for it but it sounds more like you want a dual purpose rig for wheeling/DD.

In any event, good luck with all that you do.

Aloha and mahalo for the extensive response. I seriously appriciate when someone takes their time to write out that much. Anyone else Ive missed thank you I appriciate all of you. I've got my heart set on the FabFours Vengeance front/rear, Mobtown's sliders, and the RCI front skid and A-plates. What tires in the C or D range would you suggest?

Everyone likes Duratracs, KO2s and Nitto Maxx ST, personally I will be getting Maxx ST in 255/85-16 for my next set. Theyre an excellent tire, quiet and far cheaper than the other two. Ive seen countless people say they couldnt get the Duratracs to balance and/or the sidewalls are weak amd would puncture. A good friend has run Duratracs in Load C and E and hates them. As far as load rating, D would be fine but C is all I really think is needed.

Fresco, check out the Cooper tires down at Lex Brodies. So far, I've heard nothing but good about them. My pops has the STT's on his Dodge 2500 and likes them. Really quiet for an agressive tread pattern. One of the finish carpenters has the ST Maxx on his Tundra and likes them too. As for me, whenever I need to replace I'll go with the BFG AT's. Best tires I had on my Titan, and I went through 5 sets in 120k miles

Then why even bother coming here and asking? Seems like you know what you need for the conditions you're saying you'll use it for, and clearly you said that the lot of us "do not understand my off road needs", so just spend your money the way you want and do what makes you happy. Personally, I do think you should spend time with the truck before doing any mods, but again, what do I know? Seems like you know better than anyone else where, even those with tons of off-road miles under their belt. I'd bet to say if you were that knowledgable about off-roading and were that experienced you wouldn't be asking these questions about a truck you don't even own yet. Especially if money wasn't the issue as you also mentioned.

Why bother buying an OR when you're going to be replacing lots of stuff that makes an OR and OR? Save your money, buy an SR5 and trick it out the way you want.

Was wondering this as well as I read through the thread. I'll admit I don't yet know every single difference in the various builds of the trucks but...

Seems to me if you're going to just swap out the suspension, wheels, and a lot of others things that define the Off Road package you might be better off getting the SR5 then put exactly what you want on it. That way you're not paying for the OR gear that you'll be immediately be yanking off and trying to sell off.

Granted you wouldn't have the OR badges and stuff ... but I feel like if you're actually offroading you should care more about what's in the truck than what sticker is on the side.

And to be clear I'm not trolling or trying to add to any of the arguments that have spewed already in the thread... I just think that if you're swapping out so much right off the bat it might be best to start with a blank canvas instead of a half painted picture and then trying to swap it to what you want.

Well said sir, I was thinking the same thing. In my opinion I think our trucks look better de-badged any way its not the emblems that make the truck, keeps people guessing.

Doesnt the SR5 have higher gearing in all aspects, no locker (lsd), downgraded sound package, no 6 speed MT, no crawl control (AT version), no dual zone climate control, no JBL audio package, no moonroof, no heated seats and no A-trac?
Dunno, but enjoy your truck and happy modding OP. The OR is the right choice ;)

This is exactly what I'm talking about. The two of you have nothing better to do than to go back days into a post and start some shit. Go drive your truck, live your life, and enjoy it with your own damn negative self. I'm not on here to listen to people who've got nothing better to do than talk shit to people. If you truthfully enjoy putting others down for your own pleasure join the police force. If you want to be a respectful adult then sure stay tuned in for any updates.
