Received a letter in January from Toyota for the rear leaf spring recall. The recall is in case the rear leaf spring corrodes or fractures and puncture the gas tank. It's for the 2005 - 2011 model year.

Anyone called in yet? My letter says "sometime in 2016"....

I got my letter back in January also.
Still no further comms with Toyota on the issue.
I called the dealer once, but they passed the buck to Toyota Canada!

Just dropped my 2011 DCLB off at my Toyota Dealer to inspect for Spring Recall. I am not sure how it all works if it passes will they not replace. I guess I am just a little concerned since I drive my 2 kids in it all the time. Some added weight on the back springs now with a canopy. Should the springs be replaced no matter what the condition is. I really don't want to drive around with a spring recall always existing. Anyone else have the spring recall done yet did they have any trouble getting them replaced weather they needed it or not.

So to confirm, you got your letter back in January and they now called you in for the inspection? I was under the impression they were going to replace the springs (so no inspection step) but I might be wrong.

If my first sentence is the case, then you are the first one I've heard that's been called in.

I was getting tired of the wait and see letters from Toyota Canada so I phoned a local dealer and said whats up. They booked me for an inspection to determine if the springs need to be recalled. They just phoned me and told me the inspection is done and the springs are good. They will not replace them until Toyota Canada makes it official. This is ridiculous.

    Seems to be typical Toyota.

Read an article comparing recall rates of the major manufacturers and Toyota has one of the highest. Not sure if this a good thing or bad.....

Just a bunch of old crap
I got my letter this past weekend to set up an appointment at my local dealer to get my new leafs.

Problem is, I took them off long ago and they're just sitting in my backyard gathering rust. Both packs had at least one cracked leaf.

Looks like in the USA people are getting called in but in Canada no call in's yet.

Similar here. Send Toyota corporate a reimbursement request. That's what I'm gonna do.

Good to hear that Toyota Canada is making some progress on this issue.

My entire suspension Upgrade/Overhaul is waiting on this recall...... I'm going to give Toyota Canada a call on Monday!

Looks like only the US guys are getting action on this - not sure why they would post in a Canadian thread......

To help you guys out! Why would you want to go with the certainly crappy replacement in the uncertain future??

I spoke to Toyota corporate at length about this. You can get aftermarket springs of your choice on their dime. Just don't do the purchase and install yourself since this is a safety recall and the gov is involved. Have a licensed shop purchase and install the springs and write you a cause/condition/ remedy letter and use that along with your invoice and submit to Toyota Corp for a reimbursement. It might take a bit but they will gladly pay it because the dealers would stick them with $2,000 bills for this. Hope this is of some use to you guys!

Got mine replaced months ago. Dealerships have to replace them. They might try to avoid replacing them, but just be assertive and demand it. It's a safety recall. BTW, the new ones are sweet
