I have been a Union Ironworker for what feels like forever. But I have only worked at my current job for just over 2 years. Sometimes it blows me a way how messed up it is, but most of the time I fracking love it. I have so much awesome stuff to work with everyday. I fell pretty lucky. Big ass plasma with nesting programming. Almost 80year old ironworker that is belt driven. (OSHA does not approve)

 

Overhead cranes, 480v boom mounted multi-process welders.

 

100 ton press brake, big ass Marvel saw. So many old school tools to work with.

 

And a fleet of well maintained trucks to use. Today I am grateful.

 

But wait there's more. Cedar falls power house. Top of the dam at Cedar falls.

 

The Boundary Project Dam. Spill gates open last spring. The blue disks are the tops of 250KV generators.

Nothing cool where I work. No windows. Highlight of my day is the funny pics thread on TW. Zero "eye candy". But I do make $$$$$$$$$$$$

 

Hours are flexible.
Get to meet lots of new people.
And nothing beats being your own boss.

Sometimes I get to go to muddy jobsites. I got yelled at at this one for driving around unneccisarily in the mud and making a mess. But I'm a consulting engineer so I do what I want.

 

So glad I don't have to deal with that kind of crap anymore.
