    Hello TW,

Just purchased a 16' taco about a month ago.. looking to do some performance mods for more hp and mpg. Any notable performance mods you guys recommend? I was considering a CAI, exhaust etc.

Many of the other threads state that the stock intake is as good as it gets?

And as far as intakes what do you guys have?!

CAIs dont really do anything, your stock air system is pulling the same air temperature. Nothing 'colder' about the air that a CAI pulls.

Exhaust might help of you do a full setup, headers included. Not sure if anything is available yet for the 3.5l though.

Super/turbocharger is the only real way to go, once they come out with one

Cold air intakes do not work on Tacoma trucks.

You want more power? Buy something that gives it boost (turbo or supercharger). You could just get a mustang lol, my wife's 2014 v6 3.7 liter benefits from a simple cold air intake and other mods. You bought the wrong truck if you want power.

Pour money into suspension or nice tires, you'll be very happy.

No full exhaust setups available for the 3.5 atkinson? I did not know that

There will never be "full exhaust" for them. They don't have headers in the historic sense. Headers are all part of the head. A free flowing muffler may open it up tiny bit but I haven't heard one I like yet unfortunately.

These motors are not meant for performance mods. Only reliability, at least for the old 4.0 and current 2.7

The 3.5 hasn't seen the length of time and miles yet...

I've heard claims that removing the carbon filter in the intake increases throttle response. Snake oil? Probably but who knows. There aren't any intakes on the market for us yet either and like others have said, total waste of money. I would however like to find a smooth tube to go between the air box and engine. That may make a small difference and would look a whole lot better.

No, I said carbon filter not air filter. Open up the air box and look under the top part. There is a carbon filter glued in there. Part of the emissions system however it supposedly doesn't do a damn thing.

I have a hard time believing this, it would be strange to embellish numbers to this extent. This is an Afe intake on a 2grfse. +35 torque at 2250 rpms.... Different weather on the intake pull but if it made half that I'd be ecstatic.

With a smooth intake tube and a free flowing drop in filter, you'll get the same results for 1/4 the price. Not to mention there are no intakes made for the 2016 YET They're in the works but are looking to be in the $600 range as of now which is far from worth it.

I just saw a thread a few minutes ago that someone posted for the 16's that LCE released a header for this motor. He said he ordered one and would post a review....

Not really sure how that's possible since it doesn't have traditional manifold to replace with headers. More than likely it's a more free flowing engine pipe and Y pipe. Can you post a link to that thread here please?

Yeah I don't know.....I just quickly saw it and backed out of it. I don't know enough about the '16s to even agree with you so I'm sure your right. Too many posts have posted so it's gone from the main page. I'll do a search and see if I can find it for ya.

That's for the 4 banger which is an old engine design. We're looking for mods for the V6

No problem. That's now we all learn. I'm sure someone will design a new engine pipe with a better Y pipe. Reality is it'll cost way too much and offer very little. The stock 16 V6 exhaust is actually designed pretty well and routed nicely. The biggest restriction is always the big stock muffler. The down side to that is it's difficult to get good sound out of a V6 So far everything I've heard has been kinda raspy Honda ish, not at all what i'm looking for. I'd rather stay stock lol

As far as the "carbon filter" in the air cleaner goes, it's an emission device called an adsorber.
