What is the point of an aal with 5100s?

    This has probably been covered before but I'm just wondering what the purpose of an aal is if u add 5100s all around? Can't u just set the back ones to 1.75 and the fronts to 2.5 to get a decent lift? I'm looking to lift and level the truck for least amount of work possible. Thanks.

    Well that answers that lol. What's the reason for that though? Is it possible to just buy two pairs of adustable sets or are rear ones completely different dimensions?

    No they adjust by using your front coils. So unless you rig you rear suspension like the front.. nope not going to happen

    ok so i am new to suspensions. how do i get my 08 to ride smoother? every bump i hit you can feel. i have check the tire pressure and they are dead on? new shocks? aal ? or what. Cause my mother-in laws tundra rides like a dream?:(

    Some new shocks (like bilstein 5100s) should help you out. You also have progressive rate front coils because you have the offroad package. That make the front coils stiffer as you load them more. It helps off road but makes for a stiffer ride.

    To the OP- The SHOCKS don't hold the truck up.
    The Front adjustable shocks move the position and preload of the front coils to create lift.
    In the rear, the leaf springs and shocks are seperate parts- the AAL makes the truck sit higher on the springs and the 5100s allow for increased shock stroke and a better ride.

    From what I read on here anything is better than what you got now EXCEPT spacers. One guy installed some kings and said it was "Plush" like rideing in a caddy. www.downsouthmotorsports.com you can get them from here. But there are other brands OME, SAW, Icon, toytec,

    Ok so what all would i need to make it ride better yet i still want to be able to off road being i hunt and camp in MT all the time. Or atleast when i am there. LOL. would this fix my problem? i will probably have someone else install them being i dont know anything about the suspension

    I guess that was what was confusing me, shocks vs suspension. Thanks for clearing that up.

    dunno if you have heard about the tsb suspention upgrade that toyota does but it should help out with how ruff ur ride is and also gives a little lift in the back

    Yea my wife is taking it in today to see if my truck qualifies. if that fixes it then great but if not i want to learn about the whole suspension and upgrade it so i can still off road and street drive cause it is my wifes every day driver

    The TSB is really for harsh riding under load and it slightly stiffens the rear end- If you don't like the EMPTY ride then stiffening up the suspension isn't really the way to go.

    Yea it rides ruff when empty, i havent really loaded it yet since i am in iraq. So any idea on what to put in to make the ride smoother?:confused:

    Better shocks....Non Progressive coils. And even then I can't promise you that'll be the smooth ride you want. If you want a ride like a caddy....Get a caddy.
    Ride feel is such a personal thing- I've had folks tell me that my truck rides rough...but I like it and think it's smoother than my old Dakota. If you've found something you like....Get that.

    No i am not looking for a caddy. I just know that compared to the Tundra my truck rides really ruff. I like the truck feel for off roading and hunting. But if the TSB doenst fix it then when i get home i will try some better shocks. What is the diffrence in the Progressive coils and non?

    As a load on the coils increases,They in turn become progressively resistive.
