Cheap Bumpers on eBay!!

In to check if OP posted pics of his new bumper since he was supposed to be installing it today

 

Its already 7am, what a slacker. Can't believe he isn't done yet.

So.... Does oem fog lights work with this ap/eBay bumper?

 

I really hope OP is just a regular guy that ordered a cheap bumper.. And comes back from a weekend away to install and upload pics, and sees this gong show post from our junior detectives!! That would be perfect.

 

A lot o my post is speculation, not fact....


I do too, and I think that is a low estimate.


That being said I call horseshit on the theory.

If these are indeed AP bumpers, and to an extent even if they're not, AP outsources the manufacturing, it is no longer fabrication.

R&D, while always ongoing, only had initial impacts to get going. Sure, tooling, machines and manpower all need to be bought and then paid for through an upcharge in each item sold. That holds no weight on this argument though.

AP designed a bumper, liked it and marketed it. They then did what a majority of companies do, bid out the manufacturing to meet demand and yield the best profit margins.

Again, if these are the same bumpers you can buy via AP's website, then this shows what their upcharge is. $800 per bumper(front) for clicking a different link? For having a "mine is the real deal" logo cut in? They don't manufacture in house, they don't powder coat in house, they don't ship either.

I have no problem with it either way, while some pay $598 shipped, I bet this is the same price they were sold to AP, before AP marks them up. The manufacturer probably rebid the bumper and told AP the price would increase x amount. AP refused so we have a true cost option out there.

You can only sell something for what it will be bought for. This will change that number for a while.

Built to order will always cost a lot more, but that sets a price for mass production manufacturing to take advantage of.

Again, not saying this is the case, this could explain a lot of things. 72 hours before anyone knows what type of product it is.

All speculation at this point.

Lol the other guy said 90% of him wishes I get cardboard. I stand by my comment. And I didn't say that because there is a cheap bumper on eBay. I edited the previous post to say "a lot of companies" instead of "all". anyone who is making each bumper by hand, yes that does take a lot of time. But the bumps that are being mass produced, I don't think they are priced fairly. Obviously @Mobtown Offroad has great input here and they can justify their pricing. Also for clarity, is it 80 hours for the design of the first bumper but then when you have the design you can get it done quicker?

 

Oh yes, 80 hours until we are ready to build them. Once we have the design done and fixtures set, it goes much quicker.

 

I could write a book off this thread.

Then sell it on eBay.

So everyone that has actually ordered, do you have pre facelift tacomas as in 10' and older? I'm curious how these would fit both and look decent.
