First one? Second one is equally great if not better. Amazing they pulled the second one out of thin air, the book was fully covered in the first one. Coppola and Puzo just whipped up the story for second one and hit a big time home run.

Also amazing is the fact that, in between the two Godfather movies (which was only two years) Coppola wrote and directed The Conversation, another great movie. This in addition to writing and directing Godfather 2. Matter of fact, The Conversation was nominated for Best Picture at 1974 Academy Awards, but Godfather 2 won. He lost to himself!! Very prolific period for Coppola.

Since you know everything about Francis Ford Coppola, why Godfather Part III? I wonder if someone were to not watch the first two parts, if they would think that it's a decent film.

? Who the hell said I know everything about Coppola? And are you asking why *not* part 3? If that's what you're asking, my answer would be that 3 was kind of a dud, especially compared to 1 and 2. Kinda like watching Boondock Saints 2... it pales in comparison and in my mind somewhat tarnishes the greatness of the original. I know not everybody feels that way, though. Just how I roll.

You know far more about Coppola than I do. I was just wondering if you had some insight into why he made Godfather Part 3 was made. It's understandable if you don't because most people probably stopped carrying much about him after the '70s. It seems like a sequel not many people were asking for.

I own the box set.... one of the discs is about the making of 3. He claimed he wanted to wrap up the story of Michael, to show how much of a toll his old ways cost towards the end of his life. Kind of like Unforgiven, but not done nearly as well. I don't believe he did it *just* for the money, because he seems to have quite a bit of integrity. But, the whole thing was kind of half baked. Much like his career after Apocalypse Now. I think he shot his creative wad in the 70's and didn't really have the fire after that. Happens to all of em if they're any good to begin with.

I agree with you and learned two things after watching "The Shallows", 1. It's true what they say about people from Texas being tough, 2. Crime doesn't pay in Mexico.

I wonder if that shark was the grandson of Jaws, because he is one tough adversary.

The third movie in the Purge series opens tomorrow called "The Purge: Election Year". Does anyone plan to watch this in the theaters and did you like the first two before this one?

I did enjoy Frank Grillo's character Leo Barnes in the second film "The Purge: Anarchy", who plays an off-duty police Sergeant, that tells his ex-wife Janice (Chad Morgan) that he must Purge to avenge the death of his son, and goes out into the streets heavily armed, he was really bad ass in that role.

You can watch most of the best parts on this trailer:

I haven't seen any but am kind interested in them with the recent release. They aren't on Netflix or Amazon for free yet so I'll keep waiting :bored:

I agree and it just makes me wonder who are the people seeing it in a theater, when they can wait and see it at home. I did like the second one a lot more that the first and thats not usually the case with sequels. Some people are saying this movie will be better than the first two, so we will have to wait and see.

What would you do if the Purge was real during which all crime is legalized for 12 hours once a year and all police, fire, and medical emergency services remain unavailable? :spy:

I didn't really like the first one, but the second had more of a plot behind it. The movies give easy answers to complex problems in society and I was just curious how the directors pulled that off, while still trying to make it realistic. To me the Purge movies are still fiction, like the Zombie genre, while being very entertaining to watch.

Watched Elysium last night after hearing about Chappie and District 9 - both directed by Neill Blomkamp. @GHOST SHIP
Was pretty good. Really brought out the "haves" and "have nots" to the extreme. Would like to see the other two of his now.
