I don't even use a worm drive any more. And saw and straight edge will get you a decent cut.

Finally done. Took me forever doing it in my free time which isn't much being basically a single dad.
I butted the boards up tight using a straightener. They have already shrunk quite a bit.
Will I be able to stain in the fall or should I wait until next year?
And any recommendations for a stain? I want a contrasting color to the dark posts and balusters that I reused. Not sure what the good brands are these days and what finish to use. I assume semi transparent will give me good UV protection. I don't want a solid stain.

Looks good. I prefer to give it a year, for any pt lumber. But currently the say anywhere to a few weeks to 6 months... depending on weather and local climate.

I've had good results with sikkens.

I like that little accent piece under the one post lamp. Are you going to put those on all the posts?

PS - Yes, I know it is a bottle opener.

I use a Bosch Wormdrive. I've gotten in the habit of using them over circular saws. I understand the dislike of them, they are heavy and take some getting used to. The only brand I've ever had trouble with is Makita, burnt it up in 4-6 months as I recall. Mind you that was 23 years ago. Worm Drives are all I own, I have a Skill and Bosch with no issues. Just change the oil about once per year.

    Any particular reason why?
I'm more or less looking for a saw that will last me for a while.

Got tired of negligent pet owners and the grass was dying. I'll save a few drops as well. Don't call me eco friendly.

I put in 3 zones of drip irrigation this weekend... all using a single timer. It was a little bit of a headache but I got it all finished to find that someone walked into my garage and stole my Dewalt 20v reciprocating saw and drill. On a Sunday in the middle of the day while I was in the back yard working.

I hate that! I was working in my garage yesterday as well, mid day, i went inside for a bit and when i come back out there was a sonic spoon with some remains of something chocolate on it. no idea how that got into my garage. I was clearing some trash right before but i nor anyone else in my house has had anything from Sonic in a long time, very strange. I didnt notice anything missing but im going to double check tonight.

I hate that I don't feel comfortable working in my garage with the door up. I'm so cautious of low lifes seeing my Camaro/tools/etc I wait to open it if anyone is walking or driving by when I pull up. I won't open it when I'm working in it and generally keep it open for the least possible amount of time. You guys with acreage are very lucky...

Sad thing is when you live in a nice part of town, you still are not safe from theft. Everyone leaves their garage open in my neighborhood over the weekends. I still feel safe for the most part but I am thinking about installing a camera in there.

sad thing is that it doesn't matter what kind of neighborhood you live in. theft happens everywhere. generally speaking that nicer the neighborhood nicer the items. why would a thief go to the hood or projects to steal. problem is that there is theft everywhere and as long as people keep thinking that it wont happen to them or think not in my neighborhood, then this shit will keep happening.

I thought what do58 wrote. Lived in an affluent town growing up and saw it a lot, both because you find nicer thing and people are more lax about locking up. A bad area you may bbe more likely to get shot.

I don't trust anyone. I'll lock my snowblower up if I so much as go inside to use the bathroom

Our neighborhood is a shopping mall for crackheads from the other side of the freeway. Stolen bikes are a form of currency. If they knew what was in my garage....I can't even think about it. I plan my projects and start/stop times based on when I need to have the garage door open or not. It is at the back of the property facing the alley. Can't hardly go take a piss without worrying. And I can hardly get the truck in there. I need to put a urinal out there.
