Any new safety features on the 17s? Automatic braking? Lane keep assist? Adaptive cruise control? I have a long commute. Thanks.

FWIW, I wrote Toyota USA and got the following reply:

    Dear RZ Rob;

Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

We appreciate your interest in the Toyota Tacoma.

While Toyota indeed has conducted pre-ordering of vehicles in the past, it has been limited to highly unique model releases, and does not apply in general, nor will it be possible for the 2017 Tacoma. We apologize accordingly.

If we may be of further assistance, please contact us via email or by calling 800-331-4331. We are available from 5 AM to 6 PM, Pacific Time, Monday through Friday, and from 7 AM to 4 PM Saturday.

We have documented your comments at our National Headquarters.

...^^^... From my experiences only .... order it and don't buy off lot ... most will give you best price when you order ... unless a sale or quota is upon them.

Avoid hassles (unless you are a great negotiator) and use TrueCar, USAA or COSTCO.

Hey folks just ordered a 2017 TRD OR 4x4 DB Cab long bed with PT/JBL. Dealer told me they need a few days to finalize the configuration and they will provide me an expected delivery date. This is in NC. Prior to that I spoke with two dealers in MD and when I mentioned I was interested in a 2017 they seem like they were not interested. They kept trying to get me to buy a 2016 on their lot. I am so excited. I will keep everyone updated

this list is kinda misleading. the 2017 4runner launch in jan-2017 is the info release for the 6th gen 4runner that will becoming out in fall 2017.

currently this is the last year for 5th gen 4runners

It doesn't seem that misleading to me, the 2017 4Runner is still going to be a 5th gen, and it is expected to arrive at the start of 2017 as far as I know (production to start in December).

The 4Runner air bags are the problem, they are still using the recalled bags and there was internal debate. Production of the 5th gen ends in July 17

hmmm that normally doesn't follow 4runner build cycle. new model info release is usually in January with production in mid/late summer, then a 4-6 week boat trip from japan. when the 2014 mid cycle refresh happened, January-2013 was the release date of the mid cycle refresh pics/specs. ordered in oct-2013 and delievery in dec-2013 for a 2014 model.

if they are making the 2017 model year a 5th gen still, then that will be very odd that Toyota makes the 4runner a 8 yr cycle between generations.

most models are on a 7yr cycle, except the Tacoma (10yrs) and camry (5yrs)

Yup, most of the time Toyota changes model year at the end of July/beginning of August, more so for models made in Japan actually, but not always. There are plenty of times where that doesn't happen as well.

2014 4Runner production started in August, 2013 and ran until August, 2014.

1st Generation 4Runner production was from March, 1984 to March, 1989 (model years 1984-1989, 6 model years)
2nd Generation 4Runner production was from April, 1989 to November, 1995 (model years 1990-1995, 6 model years)
3rd Generation 4Runner production was from November, 1995 to August, 2002 (model years 1996-2002, 7 model years)
4th Generation 4Runner production was from August, 2002 to August, 2009 (model years 2003-2009, 7 model years)
5th Generation 4Runner production started in August, 2009 for model year 2010 and is expected to run until 2017 (model years 2010-2017, 8 model years). Production for 2017 models is already scheduled to begin in December, 2016.

(Camry has been 5 years it's entire existence until this year, which marks the 6th model year of the current generation).

Not sure what we're talking about anyway, you're speculating, I'm not. The 2017 4Runner is still going to be a 5th gen.

Does the appearance of the 2017 4Runner change? Is it sixth generation?

    No, WE don't.

Sorry, I have not been paying attention to any 4runner forums or threads. Where's the best place to catch up?
