Aftermarket wheel/tire questions??

I'm looking to upgrade my wheel and tire package on my '07 Tacoma 4x4...just rolled 30K. Right now I'm running the stock 16x7 steelies and 245/75/16 stock Dunlops...total junk tires IMO. Two questions open for discussion:

1) Can I fit 16x8 aftermarket alloys (4.5" backspacing) with 265/75/16 tires on my stock suspension without rubbing? Any other recommended setups for a stock suspension?

2) I know that my TPMS sensors will not work with the aftermarket alloys. What's the best way to fix the warning light issue aside from dropping an extra $400 for new sensors? I don't feel comfortable hacking away at my dash to get to the TPMS module. I am also not very savvy at wiring to ground out the warning light. I have read about a PVC pipe to house the old sensors and 'fool' the system. Does this really work? Any other suggestions?

i was able to switch over my tpms, or i should say discount tire was able to when i switched to moto metals

 

I am looking at going with the teflon coated Mohave ATX's from American Racing. Tire Rack has a disclaimer stating that the sensors on the stock steelies will not work...did yours have the steelies orginally or stock Toyota alloys?

Anyone else put the teflon ATX's on their 2nd Gen Taco? I'd like to see some pics if they're handy...

I may be wrong, but I think the SR5 wheels have a different sensor that sthe 16x7 stock steelies.

 

i went to a 265/75/16 (dick cepek fcII) and i had a little rub (only when turning tight). then i put a 3 inch lift on it and it not only looks good but no more rubbing. i dont know what my back spacing is on my rims but they are 16x8 dick cepek dc-1. now with the tpms i had the tire shop change them over and they are just like they are suppose to. i am happy all the way around. i hope this helped you out.

 

The steel wheels come with the SR5 package... mine fit fine in my wheels.

 

Without any rubbing I ran 265/75R16 BFG KO's and KM2s at stock height. Some people are lucky.

As for TPMS there are 2 options: 1. use original sensors in the new rims but they just rotate them 180* when you install them. Just remember to warn the next tire technician before you dismount the tires so they don't break them off with the tire machine. 2. Black tape mod over the dash light under the dash background.

 

My TPMS sensors are stapped to the inside of my wheel, using a product similar to this http://www.tpmssource.com/steelstrap.aspx

Discount tire did all the work for me.

I think for the staps and install it was somewhere around $50. Can't really remember the incremental cost since I had tires installed and wheels balanced at the same time.
