oh yeah, the Oney Frosty in Town (thats its name, honest!) is legendary.

 

It's a great area. As kids, we'd go camping at Lake Almanor. Haven't spent much time there as an adult except to go up to Hat Creek once and a while.

 

the Hat Creek radio observatory is a trip of a place.

Any recommendations in backcountry fishing? Looking to do a four-day hike up there in Sept and would like to hit a lake or two for some trout along the way.

come on up. you can camp in the backyard or the close campgrounds (multiple). The house is rather large welcome to stay there as well.

I usually do more large mouth fishing in Lake Almanor but Eagle Lake and theres some hidden lakes like Echo and Juniper that should have some good trout.

Lake Almanor West Shore is the one i usually camp at, or Rocky Point Camgrounds. Highly recommend either one. Rocky Point is "cleaner" more glamping but three huge loops so theres some badass sites there.

 

LOL totes. I only descend into the basin when MET is closed and I need to make a right turn to go over Luther Pass and get farther away.
