What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Speaking of mpg's, I've never had a tank were I've had less then 21mpg. On this camping trip over the weekend I averaged 22.9-24.2. Actually calculating it out, not going off of the computer on the truck.

 

What are lift and tire specs in pic?

 

ONP is absolutely gorgeous, you won't regret it at all. I also recommend checking out the entire deception psd area. I do a lot of weekend camping up there, and it's great for when you don't have the time for bigger excursions.

 

I noticed when I took off the button that there were three wires, and the oem style buttons I've recieved have 4. Guessing one of those is for a different back lighting feature for the button or something like that, did you see something similar?

 

Yes. If you hook up the wire for back lighting it stays on all the time since the harness is connected directly to the battery. I left the back lighting disconnected so as not to drain the battery.

 

I've always used Shell 92, and wasn't aware that the premium equated to less miles per tank. Can't really claim to understand the science as to why it would equate to seeing lower MPG, but if I'm just trying to use basic logic, is it as simple as higher octane meaning the rate at which it burns is that much higher / faster?

Does anyone know if newer Tacomas see any actual benefit from 92 vs regular? I know they have automated injector cleaning, but I've always figured that the fuel itself burns better and leads to less carbon build up on valves. Or am I just buying into oil company marketing?

 

Gotcha, makes sense. That's what I wanted as well so that it only lit up when on. You remember off the top of your head which wire was dedicated to constant backlight power?

 

My oven gets up to 450, but it's a dry heat in there so it's not too bad.

It'd probably really help if when people were posting their MPG, they also gave a quick overview of their truck.

For example, I top out around 18.5 on a good day / tank, but I also have the heaviest possible configuration - DCLB OR - V6 - premium tech which adds a little weight, plus a 3" lift with 17" trd's and 285's. All those things make for a big difference in MPG. Even just a short bed instead of long bed, or access instead of double cab.

How did you get the truck on the compass instead of the arrow?

 

Not sure if you mean price wise or weight wise but it's the Leer 100xr with sliding and removable front window, carpeted interior, and lock actuator which totaled $1850 and weighs a little over 200lb. I believe.

265/70/17 Falken A/T3W tires and 5100 shocks with the front set at 1.75 and 1 inch rear lift block.

 

Throw a 1" block in the back and it'll really make things look good

Me too. Now I want to do a good 3" setup and full leaf deal in the rear... ugh it's never ending. Do that and then bigger tires.... and it continues

Been there a few times, the deer population was huge back in the 70's, deer everywhere, remember walking to the top of the large dune and a weird dude playing a flute was up there. That place has nothing on the Imperial Sand dunes though.

 

Saw you mention 15.5mpgs. with a small lift and 265/75/16 KO2's I see 15.5 combined with 14.8mpg last weekend. This was on the display. I need to manually calculate and see what I get.

Had my 5,000 mile service today. Everything checked out. No fluid problems. Oil was changed. Tires weren't rotated though. Is that a 10k mile thing?
