5100/885/AAL experience

I Plasti - Dipped my badges. How long have your wheels been done, and how's it holding up?

 

Did them a couple months ago. Seems to be holding up pretty well.

 

this thread has me re-thinking my decision to lift with stock coils and 5100s. Spending an extra few hundred seems to go a long way w/ the 885s. I've already been in contact w/ Marie at headstrong the past few weeks. hmmmmm

 

DO IT! Really, if you're going to upgrade you might as well do it right and upgrade the shocks and coils, especially if your coils are 10 years old. And you don't want to preload the factory coils by raising the height of the 5100's, it will somewhat decrease the ride quality overall. The OME 885's not only provide lift but they make the front end suspension ride and feel noticeably different, better. Also, if you get the front setup coil and shock assembled through headstrong it makes for an easier bolt on application and you will not have to deal with a spring compressor to put the old coils on the 5100's. You will not regret this decision, best thing I've ever done to a truck. Good luck and update this thread when you get it done!

 

so do you recommend keeping the overload? Thinking 885s and a 1.5 aal

 

Depends on your needs.

Tow or haul? Keep it.

People lover? Not so important.

Want more lift? Keep it.

Without it you'll wear out the leafs faster, so that's a consideration also.

Just a word of warning, once you go 3" on the lift, the stock tires look incredibly small. I was hoping to wait until i ran through the stock tires i had, but didn't last 2 hours. Sitting there drinking a beer looking at the truck, i had to go get new tires. added $1,000+ to my cost.

But totally worth it.

 

hah! Yeah I can see that. The first thing I did when I got the truck is get bigger tires. I'm hoping my 265/70/17 k02s slip back under nicely

Godamn she looks good. I want the softopper, I want the wheels, I want the headlights. Again, nice truck buddy. Let me know if you ever want to trade those SCS for my methods haha.

 

I think 265's look almost perfect with this setup honestly. Don't get me wrong, I'm eventually going to get 285's but they def fill up the wheel well gap a lot more than the 265's. They will fit nicely.

Daaamn, where did you get the sliders? I eventually want some bolt on ones to use more as steps and ding protection. Where did you buy the headlights too?

 

I purchased my sliders from SOS Concepts, great product! I did my headlights myself with the help of a few TW buddies, they're the OEM ones with the black headlight mod.
