Living in PHX AZ, it isn't uncommon to see high temps into the 110 to 115 range. My A/C seems to drag getting cold. takes about 5 minutes before starts blowing cold and even then, doesn't seem to power enough cool air to cool the entire cab. If it's humid (during monsoon season), may take even longer and performance is terrible.

I talked to my buddy who owns a Tundra and he says he experiences the same results. For those that really rely on A/C, is this just an annoying Toyota thing to live with, or is there a problem with my A/C?

When it's not super hot, performance seems fine which makes me believe this is just a crappy A/C system that is annoying and can't change.

    Thoughts?

I don't think the AC in any Tacoma is particularly very strong, seems like the cheaped out on them.

You can wrap the AC lines with the same foam sleeves that home ac installers use and that helps cool it down quicker. It saves about 5 min off the cool down time. Have you system serviced and make sure freon is filled correctly.

Lets just face it, we live in Az. Your truck is literally sitting in an oven and it's going to take forever to cool down.

Ask someone in the East coast how long it takes to heat their truck up when its -20 outside vs out long it takes you to heat your truck up in winter. Extreme temps just makes the system take longer.

There is nothing you can do but wait until Thanksgiving. Mine acted the same when I was there - humidity makes a big impact on AC performance.

I know what you mean... 112 and monsoon humidity... it's brutal. :bananadead:

I've noticed the same thing in Utah here now with the temperatures near 100. The A/C seems to cycle - cold for 15 seconds and then cool for 7-10. I've researched here in the past and it seems to be normal for these trucks. I rented a Malibu down in Santa Clara over the weekend (in the upper 80s/low 90s) and its A/C nearly gave me frostbite. At least GM does one thing right:)

Humidity, in AZ... LOL... Try you some AL., LA., MS., GA. weather from May till Sept. Yeah, I've been there, in Bullhead City, temps well over 100 feels better than 85-90 does here. BTW, my AC works fine, roll the windows down and pull out the hot air, turn it on high and in a few minutes it's starting to cool down.

I have the same problem with my truck. On hot, humid, summer days in the Georgia heat my truck doesnt cool well at all unless Im constantly moving. Even then it seems like its still lacking.

What year is the truck? You may want to go have the ac recharged if it older than 5 years.

I live in south FL and it cools pretty quickly. I use a sun shade, windows are tinted and have the window visors to combat the heat.
