Valve Tap? Clicking.

I've got what sounds like a valve tap (clicking) on my 2005 Tacoma V6.
A friend suggested that I try to run some detergent/flush/treatment through the oil system.
I'm not sure that would make a difference, but I'm willing to try.
Any thoughts on it if is worth trying? If so, any product recommendations? Thanks.

 

If it's louder than the normal taco tap you may want to have your valve clearances checked. If something is out of spec all the cleaners in the world won't make it right.

 

Agree with the above, cleaners are not going to help any valve tapping.

Are you pretty sure it is the valves and not something else making the tapping noise?

How many miles on the 2005?

You could try getting a grade thicker oil and see if that will quiet down the tapping.

I'm not really sure what a "normal" Taco tap sounds like, to be honest. See/hear video clip linked below (it's hard to hear it on video). It has about 150,000 miles. The engine has been well maintained. I'm not a mechanic, but would appreciate any advice.

I'm no expert but it sounds like normal valve noise to me. Has it recently gotten louder? I researched this extensively in my motorcycle ("yamatick") and the general consensus was it is when you stop hearing that noise that you have to worry.

 

My 05 ticked since day 1 now boosted and more same sound by the engine A lot louder in the exhaust.I love marvels mystery oil for a day before oil change run 10/30 high mileage and a quart of Lucas oil stabilizer.I do every change .But if ticket changes Go see a knowledge Toyota mechanic..Or as usual turn the radio up to 11 why it is 1 better than 10!!
