My rear shock setup is not well documented and could use some improvement. I tossed it together pretty quickly. It'll be getting redone after this wheeling season :spy:

    You're in Vernal, right?

Ever make it this way and I'll weld one up for you.

Anyone have an idea of the worth of a used rear bumper? I was thinking $20 but Ive seen a few extremes

According to everyone it doesn't make any sense o run Kings without doing it.

I'm not really worried about the cost, it's more the down time and doing it right.

Bullshit. If you want Kings in the stock location, then do it. It's your truck.
You better get the right length though and that may be why they are telling you not to do it, the King's might not be available in the right length.

With that being said, a cheap set of Billies or Rancho's in the stock location will be fine too. The problem that nobody is telling you about,:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: is the available range of motion in the stock location after.....a lift.

After you lift it, the geometry and range of motion for the stock shock mounts changes drastically, and can cause the shocks to leak. Believe it or not, everybody claims that it is from bottoming out the shock.
    Not true.
It's from topping out. Most will claim that a 10" shock is too long, it actually needs to be longer.
I'm running 10" Ranchos and one is leaking, from topping out. I have zip ties on the shafts to see just exactly how much travel is being used. The passenger side has a couple more inches to go before bottoming and the driver has about 1 1/2" to go.
I am not running new bumpstops either cause I don't see the need. But that's just me. I'm trying to compress that shit as far as possible. It is a good idea to have them though.

But there are variables to this too.... as Toyota made a change in the length of the rear leaves in the newer years of the first gen.
Mine has shorter leaves, the newer ones are longer.
The longer leaves have more suspension droop, at the cost of longevity and payload.
The shorter ones have less droop but also sag less over time and carry more weight without the bro lean.
This little fact is the most overlooked piece of information on here and as such causes a great deal of confusion on the damn AAL and shock lengths, bumpstops, etc...

Of course all that starts the confusion with the damn AAL that most buy and really don't need.
    But I digress.
You will need a minimum of 10" of travel in your shocks. 11" would be ideal. And you will need bumpstops installed.

@Madjik_Man has a pic in his build thread that shows his truck, with the rear drooped out and a brand new OME 8" "lifted" shock...about 3" short of actually hitting the bottom mount.
