The East Coast is the only area consistently showing prices near invoice. After the savings I would have made by traveling to and from the east coast, i was looking at a 200 difference. Not worth it to me.

Socal is not a good market to buy a Tacoma if you cannot settle for near MSRP. And the tax here sucks balls no matter where you buy unless you are able to register it in another state

A 6 hour drive east will solve most people's problem. And their taxes are similar to ours. Death and Taxes

You pay taxes where the vehicle is registered. You will pay the county taxes in California no matter what if you bring it back into the state

Thats what I said. Their taxes are similar to ours. You just pay the difference when you bring it back

I thought you meant it would be similar and you would pay less taxes there

Nah. The AZ base tax and county tax is very similar to my SoCal taxes. Its pretty much a wash. I am really relishing my Arizona purchase. Great deal and so far a great truck.

After doing all the math (including "my discount", $400 dealer doc fee, no TDA), I paid about $250 or so above invoice.

this is proof that dealers aren't paying the listed invoice prices. They still pay TDA on all vehicles, even if you aren't charged TDA.

I inquired about the Costco pricing when I was looking for my truck. Internet sales rep called me and said it would be invoice or better. Then I got there and bait and switched me. He said he just printed the pricing when i got there and it the 3rd Gen was not included. It was Manhattan Beach Toyota and i think the guys name was Aaron. Costco called me a few days later and I said what I had to say. Never heard from either of them again.

I had the same experience. The Costco rep said I should be able to get invoice or better. When I told them that was not my experience, they backtracked and game me a line about (supply and demand) and then they stopped calling me back all together. You can do better w/o Costco if you shop around. They do get a cut. You should be able to cut out the middle man and make it your savings.

The whole truecar, Costco, cars.com Bullshit is a scam. Truecar was once good before they stopped listed dealer invoice and started working for the dealer instead of helping the consumer.

I have not found anyone who got better than 500 off msrp from truecar or Costco in Southern California. I tried both and Costco didn't list the vehicle in my area and truecar said I could pay around 'this price' in my area. 'This price' was 5 dollars less than msrp, which was listed as a good deal on their end.

There are plenty of examples in this thread alone, for Costco anyway. Including this guy right here <-----

I've heard Escondido was offering $1k off sticker with Costco. That deal still bites.

My Ranger wants to become a Tacoma
Hi everyone. much like you all, I want to save as much as I can on my new ride to be. Great forum, I know i'll spend countless hours learning how to maximize my (future) truck. How/where would I go to determine what the invoice price is on a Taco? Manhattan Beach Toyota tells me roughly 2k off MSRP with the Costco program. Is this about as good as its going to get? Im looking at 33k for a 16, quicksand 4x4 stick shift, 5' bed.
Waiting is an option, with the 17's on the horizon would you say its best to wait out the 16?
    thanks ya'll.

Check out the first post on this thread, you can determine Invoice and MSRP pricing on exactly what you want your truck equipped with. It'll give you a solid idea of what pricing to look for when going in for negotiation. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-tacoma-model-package-option-costs-master-list.388345/

Drive to AZ you can get $500 over invoice or better. Call and pre-deal.

Very true. Arizona. Lot of Cali dealers give low pricing only to add some BS fees like TDA on top.
