I dont mind new stuff that much, but I enjoy rock a lot too (especially classic). I even listen to rap in the gym, but theres a point when you have to start saying some of this new stuff isnt country anymore (I'm looking at you Hunter Hayes and Sam Hunt). It could too easily fall under the pop genre. Artists are catering to the new generation (sadly, my generation) who likes rap, tight jeans, and computer produced beats. As for me, I'm gonna stick to starched jeans and music played on instruments. There are a ton of good country songs out there today, but there are also a lot of bad ones too. Sad to say that the time I'm around 40, country western will probably be completely dead. I may be 19 but some of my favorite songs are on the country legends station in Houston (97.1) which plays nothing but country western. I do enjoy a lot of FGL, Luke Bryan, Paisley, Chesney, Bently and Zac Brown songs, but theres something about Merle, Strait, Conlee, Willie, Yoakam and Coe that just makes me wanna sit in the garage with a case of beer and work on my truck or talk to my grandpa and my dad lol. Story/rant over.

This was real country before the industry started using a computer to make anyone appear to have talent.

When I heard this song on the radio for the first time, I thought the same, there is hope! I am a bit tire of the "bro country" (that's how I call it), and this guy took a different way of what is popular today and I like it.

I understand this is a country thread and I agree it's not the same as it was, but I would have to say all music is not the same as it used to be. Rap today blows. A lot of the newer rock blows. All you have now is Bieber and these teenie bopper chicks that look like 12 singing crap songs.
But, then again old country would not survive and the younger generation doesn't want to hear banjo's in every song. I occasionally listen to George Strait because I grew up to him. But, to drive to work and listen to him for 30 minutes gets old. I do like Chris Stapleton because he seems to be more in with the roots of country music. But, sometimes I need more upbeat songs, which the newer stuff fits the bill.

While reading all the post, I was about to say that if there is no fiddle in the song, for me, it is not enough country. There is some exeption every now and then but most of time we have to hear a fiddle.

I like the old stuff myself, bluegrass, Hazel Dickens, Flatt and Scrugs, etc. There are some great new bluegrass groups out there: Flatt lonesome, trampled by turtles, just to name a few.

When I was in High School, not so long ago, I was in the rare kind of people who had country on my MP3 player and had CD Player full of random country music, from Alan Jackson to Eric Church, old Aldean when he was signing Big Green Tractor and Brad Paisley with mud on the tires and 5th gear. Now, all of my friends seems to LOVE country music and it plays in every party, new songs I don't really know, and I still stick to my old albums.

I am now starting to boycott some radio stations that are all playing 5 times a day the same new bad songs, even now Sam Hunt plays at our "popular music" station. I don't understand that...

Like I said above, I listen to old Jason Aldean, but since I went to see him in concert 2 years ago and saw all those wannabe country music lovers with their camo suit, camo hats, tight jeans and saying they are "rednecks" without knowing the real meaning of a redneck... I was disapointed... Like some has said in other posts, it's now all about alcohol and girls and GMC trucks... Never about Tacoma and Kiss an angel good morning....

I could continu like that but it's getting late and my english starts to be limited lol. I love this thread!

Mane... dis is good. Never heard this song or artist before. Props, 10 sad songs and 2 beers for you.
That channel, music fogg.. is excellent. It's the perfect mix of country/bluegrass/blues?.. etc.
I stumbled upon James McMurtry there. It's long.. but worth it. Listen to it.

I haven't liked where country music has gone for quite some time now. Main stream country music today is absolute garbage - it's re-marketed pop music. Maybe my fav from pop country was Fly Over States by Aldean. I can't even listen to it on the radio anymore - unless the station plays the "oldies" at a certain time. As years go by we'll be hearing "classic" Taylor Swift and Luke Bryan :help:. Speaking of which, they never did anything for country music, ever.

This kind of music is good too but where I live, only the greatests American Hits go through the borders... I was able to listen to the kind of country music I like while listening to Sirius XM radio and I am starting to consider this. Also apps like Spotify and other streaming music offer older playlist I like. Just need to take the money out of my pocket to get Sirus or more data on my phone to listen to it as long as I want...
