Same with me. I told him I was only making an appointment if they were checking it manually. When I dropped it off today, face to face I asked and was told they would. Called my 4 hours later, said their "best tech" was on it and all checked out. I asked if they did the manual check, he said "everything checked out great... no problem". Completely ignored my question. So when I got dropped up to pick it up, I called him out, told him I painted the bolt, nothing. He had nothing to say. Said it would require a full ATF flush at $300 to do the check? I'm pissed. Waste of time.

First of all he's trying to rip you off because you caught him in a lie. You don't need a flush, you only need a manual check which cost around $110 if Toyota insists on charging you. I'd either go above his head and make shit roll downhill or go to another dealership and put this one on blast here so other folks know to stay away from them.

New to the tacomaworld, but just bought my first Tacoma on Tuesday (2016 Toyota Tacoma SR5 w/ Towing). Been seeing a lot about this low Tranny fluid issue thinking about getting mine checked as well, but i haven't had any of the slipping gear or any thing like that the truck is running great!(knock on wood) Let me know what you think. My Vin # Starts with 3 and it was made in the Mexico plant.

The problem with all of this is that customers are coming in to the dealership and technicians have a fairly good idea by now what to look for. First thing check fluid and top off and clear adaptive. Probably rarely is it being reported to Toyota so it can be that they are thinking these are isolated issues. The shift quality felt during the PDI test drive on these trucks should be a key indicator that something isn't right.

About to pick up a 4x4 Sport DCSB with a manual transmission.

Is this issue in the manual transmission models? Or is it only in the automatic?

I am pretty sure it is only the automatic transmissions.

I dropped mine off tonight to have the fluid level checked tomorrow. Exhibiting all of the indicators of low fluid- delayed engagement, erratic shifting, slipping etc.

Also asked that they grease the u-joints, and check the torque on the leaf spring u-bolt nuts. They had better not charge me for any of that. I did grease all but one of the u-joints- the last one I couldn't get to because of some plate by the transfer case. The rest of the joints were bone dry.

Just had my appointment yesterday. My transmission fluid was good, u joints were greased, and u bolts were torqued. All was good. Very happy. My dealer did tell me that they started checking tranny on PDI because of all the complaints on several forums. Would have been nice to know that before I brought it in to get checked but it was worth it to me for the peace of mind. Mine was made in march in Texas.

Had mine checked last week and was 1/2 quart low, they reflashed the ECM and now we'll see if the 2-3 flare i was getting after it sat about an hour stop goes away. So far so good.

I'm also March build date, Texas. I asked before I picked mine up and the answer I got was "you'll definitely know if it's underfilled because it won't work" so I seriously, seriously doubt it was checked. I do get the odd rough shift every now and then that doesn't feel totally normal, so I think I will make them check it.

Well I just called to see if there was any update, since my appointment was at 8:00AM and they could have fully replaced the transmission in that amount of time(5 hours)- or at least any competent mechanic could. Service guy was rude, said his foreman was working on it because he didn't want to put just anyone on the job, and they haven't had any 2016 tacoma come in with these issues and they had to "call California"... it sounds like his mechanics or foreman don't know how to work on it, which is kind of disturbing. They are probably reading this...I told him about how there were hundreds of people on this forum alone who have taken their vehicles back to the dealer for transmission issues and almost 100% of them were found to be low on fluid. He just said, well, yeah, the foreman is working on it.
Yeah, well if you're going to have it for multiple days, I'm going to need a loaner to get to work...I already lost my only chance of a ride to the dealer to pick the truck back up today(only ride I had left for work, doesn't get done till 11PM). I have to be at work at 7AM tomorrow, dealer doesn't open till 8 and is 40 minutes away.

I fail to understand why the guy cannot just check the fluid level, top it off, and send me on my way.

It can take 4-5 hours for it to cool enough to check.

After reading about the low fluid condition,i checked mine following the proper check procedure in another post and found the level 8 ounces low.
my build date was may and I have the tow package in my trd off road.Tranny feels fine. (WHEW!)

I have the ability to check for TSB at work. So far the only thing I find is for 2nd to 3rd up shift where customers feel like it's slipping. Not sure the exact wording but to me seems like it's a program issue. I'll have to check again to make sure. Nothing else on transmission issues. Also just to add there is now a TSB for rear differential leak. I'll look more into it when I can. Hope this helps out just a bit if any.
