its a combination of both. the idea is to get a variety of of different types of terrain. our plan is like our nevada event. main campsite and we have mapped trails with hazards so you can go out on your own, and also we do guided runs
the group staff is made up of raptor owners. i am also one. we do not make events specific to any type of vehicle. we are a group that enjoys offroading and want others to join us. if you look at the site i posted above, you will see many pics of toyotas, dodge, etc. we are not by anymeans raptor specific. the reason there are fees due is because we carry the proper blm permits and insurance to hold the events. many people just go out in a group and start running around. however legally your group has to be smaller than 10 otherwise you also need a permit. unfortunately its a per vehicle fee so there is cost associated with it

try to think about it like this... we plan these events because we want to offroad and keep everybody safe. thats why i am going with a small group to prerun trails and map them. when you come to the event you get a map of trails that are marked with hazards. we upload them into your offroad gps. we make files for lowrance, motionx, and back country nav systems. so if you want to go out on your own, you know when and where to slow down. you get t shirts and decals with your number of choice. the blm park ranger always comes and visits us once during these events. checks our permits and usually will bs with us for a while. this allows blm to make sure we are not destroying the land and shows them that we are a responsible group. we have been granted a 5 year blm permit due to us respecting the blm land. which now we are expanding our events to other states. being that i lived in the bay area, just recently moved to colorado, most of our fun was in the nevada and southern california desert. but i have scouted many areas and found that wyoming has a lot to offer for higher speed offroad. we are a non profit group so even us, the event staff have to pay the same fees. last event we overchaged each individual vehicle by $4. so we bought an ipad mini and raffled it off we dont keep any of the money we collect. we also have vendors that donate other prizes towards these events. one guy got $500 off a new bumper, another guy won $400 worth of offroad lights, etc. so when you pay for our event, you arent making us rich. hell, i am spending my own money on gas to go from my home in the springs to wyoming to prerun. at 11 miles a gallon it adds up. so while there is a minimal cost associated, you get a lot more than you think

Planning on being in Manitou/Colorado springs area July 2-6, with the 5 and 6 being used to hike Pike's Peak.

After that, I'm headed to the Ouray/Alpine Loop area for a few days. I hope the the trails open up by the time I get there. But it looks like there's still a few closures, including Black Bear, Imogene, and Poughkeepsie. Looks like I'll come up with alternative trails to run.

I may have Texas beer for trade. So if you see me out there, be sure to say hi.

It'll be close but usually those trails are open by the 4th or the weekend after. It's all about the yearly snowpack and the current rate of snowmelt.
Silverton and the rest of those little towns rely on summer 4x4 tourist income, the 4th is a big one, so there's a good chance they will have it open.

Here's to hoping. I know I may skip Black Bear even if they open it because of how slick it could still be. I do know y'all have been getting a lot more snow this year.

I also saw Silverton has a place to buy local rum (Montana Rum?). :spy: Is it any good?

We're spending the first two days up there trying to acclimate to the elevation. So we're pretty open. I'll shoot you a PM in a few days once we finalize our plan (aka, me just wanting to drink beer)

It's the Montanya Distillery - They moved the stills over to Crested Butte a few years ago but I think they still have a tasting room in Silverton.

Oh and here's a good site to get pass info: http://www.bushducks.com/tripreps/passopen.htm
