Can anyone recommend a shop in Orange County, California? Went through yelp but would like opinions from those who have experienced the buying process and procedures. THANKS!

I have one of those old style corrugated aluminum tops on my '98. I can do that by myself. It's probably about 40 pounds unlike these nice fiberglass ones that are closer to 200. It's ugly, but if you use it only a few times a year, maybe it's good enough?

Ordered the 100XR directly from the Leer dealer in Oregon City, OR and mentioned the swatch thing. They said they had never heard of this option. Surprised me. I was willing to wait for the swatches, but ended up just ordering as they sounded really confident in their color match. So, we'll see. Should be on next week with all the bells and whistles. Can't wait.

What are your dealers using to tap into your truck's wiring? Do most use just t-taps?

I need to haul my 16 ft canoe but I havent seen any pics of guys with 1 cross bar on their cap and the other on their cab.
Ive installed the rails onto my cap but before I but the roof rack part I need to know:
Will the same cross bar thats mounted to the rails on my cap mount to the cab roof factory holes? Its a bloody mystery

I'm based in south OC, but I got my cap through valley camper sales in Escondido. Little further than a few north OC shops for me, but I got a good vibe from the phone call / visit. I'd happily recommend them.

I've been carrying my 20' surf ski on the cap racks only. Spaced as far apart as they'll go (long bead). It hasn't flown off. Yet.

I can see by the plate there's a good chance you may have been dealing w/ Sam T Evans... I'm currently heading into week 5 with these clowns; shell came in two weeks ago, had to wait for them to replace the framed sliders since the gasket was extremely sloppy and aesthetically unpleasing, dealer agreed. Went and checked it out this week after new windows installed to see they chipped the paint on the shell then painted the damage with a brush, looks horrible. Still waiting on a response.

Question, was the 5 weeks just the wait time or did you have to deal with additional resolution? Also, what length of bars do you have on your rack? I bought 60" and curious how far they'll hang over the side, trying to get an idea referencing your setup. -Thanks

I bought the cap used in the late '90s so I don't know anything about who makes it. I think it's from the days when caps were "universal fit", it's hard to tell from the pictures but it's a bit too wide for the bed so it doesn't seal as well as it could. I've never weighed it so I don't know if it's actually 40 pounds but it's lighter than a couple concrete landscaping blocks. I bet if you trolled craigslist for a while you could pick one up pretty cheap.

Looks like they still make this type of cap, somebody the earlier in the thread posted this link: http://rangertruckcaps.com/deluxe.html. Don't know if it's as flimsy, I mean, as light as mine. :)

They forgot to order after the original 4 weeks of waiting. They paid leer $150 to rush to shell. They were nice to me, I do see some fiberglass flaking off already though. I might coat it in polyurethane or epoxy. I believe I purchased the 65" load bars. I think they will be perfect for what I want to do with it.
Does your shell have only 4 mounting points? The washers they used seem scary to put any other load on top of my car. Im thinking about installing more mounting points.

Wow... Turns out Sam T had to ship my shell back to leer for a repaint, it'll be another 3 weeks before I get it installed.

I did notice there are only 4 mounting points instead of 6 that come with the snugtop. I just can't get past the lines on the Snugtop. I didn't see how the shell is fastened and I'm hopeful it's better than my old Leer shell which came halfway off after an extended drive on a rutted out/ washboard dirt road.

Thanks for the bar length specs, I think I'll be sitting pretty with the 60".

they utilize the rails inside of the truck. I am thinking of making a brace out of galvanized that runs across the whole length of the fiberglass base. It should be cheap and way better than the dinky washers they used. I also might add more tie down points to secure it better. At least you will have a good looking shell in the end. It is so worth the wait.
