towing with a lift

I have a 06 trd sport quad cab long bed mostly stock it pulls a 22 foot scarab 22 boat most of the summer my question is Im thinking of puting a 3 in ez lift on it but don't want problems towing a 3800 pound boat. Anyone done this or know any problems that might come about. Im new to this site but you guys have some kick ass trucks and I like the mod sections Im just waiting for it to warm up some so I can tear into my truck

 

I've got a 3 inch lift on my pick up and i've towed my buddies boat several times...as long as you do a AAL in the rear you should be fine I know Chris4x4 has got a bad ass boat and he tows it no problem!

Edit: I'm not sure on the weight of the boats but I think you'll be fine...you'll know once you hook the boat up if you'll be able to tow it or not

 

Yeah...Depending on how your trailer sits-Might need a slight drop hitch- but even that- Not a huge deal most likely.

 

x2 - aal in rear and drop hitch, keep top of ball about 21" above ground to start.

I had installed the rear lift with blocks and as soon as I put the trailer on my truck I knew I needed the AALs. It seemed to sag worse than when unlifted. I ordered the AALs the next day and it made all the difference.

 

Ya I figured I would have to put the drop hitch because the trailer hits the ball straight on now and a three in lift should need a small drop hitch. I just don't want the truck to be squated in the back when I put the boat on it doesn't sag more then a couple inchs now

Yea. When it was stock with a trailer it sagged.

Lifted with blocks and a trailer it squatted.
Lifted with AALs and a trailer it sagged.

 

this may be a stupid question but what are aal's?

 

Add A Leaf

For your rear suspension

 

oh ya thats what I thought had a brain fart for a min.

 

Add A Leaf- It's an extra leaf put into the rear end leaf pack to provide lift and/or additional stiffness.

 

Nothing stupid - we all have to learn.

Add a leafs springs

 

add a leaf spring on the rear

I am bad. I did not need the drop hitch until I changed bumpers.




My trailer jack does not go high enough and I cannot lift it enough to get over the ball.

I had a 3" lift installed (3" spacer up front and a 2" aal in back) to level out the truck. Problem was when I'd hook up the boat the weight on the hitch made the front rise up to where I didn't like the look and it kinda felt like the truck was floating going down the road. I removed the 3" spacer and installed one about half the size. Now I have a bit of a rake where the front is lower by about an inch, and when the boat is hooked up it now sits close to level. It drives better, the ribs of the cv boots no longer ride each other, and the alignment came out great. I should mention I have a front differential drop installed also, and I've never experienced any vibes.
