How'd the Cherokees treat you? I've heard they're a hit or miss, I've had friends who buy them cheap & have little to no problems, and a friend who's replaced a lot of things

Our Cherokee has been broken more than it runs. Lots of issues. When it is running though, it is a blast. I'll get shit for it, but it is 10 times more capable than most toyotas. Reliability is where I like toyota better.

So I've heard, . Just gotta get some more savings, get real lucky, & have perfect timing and I'll get an old yota . Also definitely agree with you about caging it

 

I tried to convince my dad to sell the cherokee and buy a 1985 Solid Axle 4Runner I found. I found one for 4k with 160k miles on it. Could have caged it, updated suspension, and put bumpers on. Would kick ass crawling

 

Damnnn that would have been a great deal for that beast
All this talk of wheeling & rigs make me think about the type of wheeling I enjoy & the kind of rig I want

That's a sweet 2 door. I have a 87 cherokee beater mob the piss out of it but what's nice there really cheap to build up.

 

Might be better off selling your truck buying something already 4x4

That's what I'm thinking too. Any reason you prefer to convert/buy a beater over just getting a daily 4x4 @Nicklovin? That's the route I went, in the future I'll buy a commuter car but for the time being *knock on wood* using my truck as both has worked out well.

Selling my truck isn't an option currently until after I graduate college

 

it was super slow and electrical was a nightmare speedo gas gauge didnt work it would just die and i would have to smack bottom of gas tank to get it going again.. man fuel pump lol
ya got my 04 and let it rust and my dad ended up giving it to someone for some work on the house ..... i did not know any better ....

I think I shared this story on here like 100 pages back lol, but 12 years ago when I was 19 and incredibly dumb I bought an 84 Toyota pickup off of a tweaker for $500. Didn't run and he didn't have the pink slip for it, but I was hellbent on owning a 4x4 (had a prerunner at the time). Long story short it was a nightmare in every way imaginable, I dumped at least another $2k into that truck and barely got it running. The 4wd never worked. Sold it to some guy on Yotatech as a parts truck for $300 bucks 'twas a valuable life lesson, lol.

I sound pretty damn close to that mental state, I'm 19, would love a 4x4 & spent too much time scouring craigslist... although I'd never buy a truck with a pink slip

He actually pulled out a revolver when my friend and I were looking at the truck and starting aiming at the power-lines saying there was a giant bird he'd been trying to kill but couldn't. There was no bird.

Don't ever buy stuff off of tweakers. I'm pretty sure he took the truck apart and reassembled it himself, probably why I could never get it running right. Being young and naive I figured for $500 I couldn't go wrong, but I was very wrong lol.

 

I need a tuned rear end! Very different, hahaha
