OK. I want to be absolutely ready for this off road adventure and don't wan't to be "that guy" that didn't come prepared. I went through the NTC "Mandatory and Recommended" List and I have pretty much everything except:

    "Recommended:
    Spare Parts
    - If your vehicle has Independent Front Suspension (IFS), you should have a spare CV shaft with you and enough tools and knowledge to replace it. The shafts do wear out and they tend to break at the worst possible moment."

Does everyone really bring a spare CV Shaft?

Some do but for the trails that are green and blue I highly doubt you would break a CV shaft

It also depends on the maintenance that you keep on the truck before you go just make sure the half shafts are in good condition

My CV shafts are original when I bought the truck new 12 years ago. I've done nothing to them. The rubber boots still look to be in good condition. I don't even think CV maintenance are on the Toyota maintenance schedule.

I would't be to worried about a spare cv. I used to carry one. Worse case ya may rip a boot. As long as your not over 200k miles you'll be fine

I've replaced both my cv's with Napa ones. The one about a week after I installed was throwing grease. That was a year and a half ago. I've been wanting to send my factory ones in for a rebuild but haven't done it yet.

Rebuild it yourself. It's a messy job but an easy one. And I've found that cv's don't tend to start busting unless you are hammering like crazy (think like getting air several times to get up an obstacle crazy) or when you are locked up front. I think busting a Cv on a green or blue would be a very rare occurrence.

The radio is ~$100, then you need an antenna, mount, and coax cable. All said and done probably ~$150-180. It's extremely simple to install, hardest part is deciding where you want to put the brains that you don't see in the photo. If you use an add-a-fuse in your in cab fuse box it's about as simple as you can get.
