This is just getting ridiculous, the point of the bowl system is to create the best possible matchups to determine post season rankings and this year's Sugar Bowl is absolute proof that that isnt happening. If anybody out there believes that Cincinnati belongs on the same field as Florida you are crazy. 16 team playoff now.

4 team playoff would be great and not adversely affect the bowls nor the length of the season

I agree. The only way to get a playoff is to guarantee more money to the conferences. Here's my idea...

Keep the existing BCS format but leave the title game vacant until after the Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, and Orange Bowls have been played on New Year's Day. The winners of the 4 BCS bowls would play 2 semi-final games the following week. The winners would then play for the BCS Championship.

The payoff would be huge for the BCS conferences. A typical BCS game pays $15 million or more to each school's conference. The lion's share goes to the appropriate univeristy (Florida, Alabama, Texas, etc.). The remaining money is shared among the other schools. If a 2nd and 3rd game were added, the additional money would also be shared among the universities.

I'm not bashing your idea at all, in fact I kind of like it. But just to point it out, it's sick how this is all about money now. It should be focused on crowning the best football team in the nation. Sure the money is nice, but why can't we focus on a system that worries about leaving no doubt who is #1 with any money being made as a bonus. I know this will probably never happen though, especially with the current economy.

I see it as "the big brother looking out for the little brother". The football teams are bringing in the cash to pay for the track team, women's soccer team, etc. The way the payouts are set up, when TCU makes it to a BCS game, they're paying for Fresno State's womens tennis team. Not really all that terrible when you think of it that way.

it will definitely happen iin our lifetimes. people are on the brink of a revolt! even the broadcasters toalk about how it sucks sometimes. soon everyone will feel the same way...

playoffs and one team on top is the only way it can work.

Oh yeah. I have no problem with the school making money from the bowls because it is obviously needed. I just don't like how the first thing on the checklist in making a new post season structure is all about the money.

the only problem about anything less than an 8 team playoff though is you start to have exactly the same problem, ok take the winners of the bcs bowls and let them duke it out, but if you have a 4 team playoff determined by standings alone you arent really solving anything. Take this year for example, who are your top 4? Alabama, Texas, Florida, Cincinnati/TCU/Boise State? Thats what the rankings suggest. Which just leads right to the other problem, minor conferences with mediocre teams running the table. Take a look at Boise State's last 5 recruiting classes, if i remember right the best team ranking was like 64th in the nation. Thats some damn good coaching if they can translate that into a top 5 team!!

basically, only one bye week in a season for teams and have all of the conferences end right at thanksgiving, makes a 12-16 team playoff very plausible.

the money is definitely an issue though, i think it should be handled much like conference championship games if not current bowl games. Why would playoff games have to drop corporate sponsors?
"The Dr. Pepper Semi-finals?" haha it could happen

I agree. You can't have a 4 team playoff. It must be a 4 GAME playoff. I don't think this would be a problem since it would be easy to keep the 4 existing BCS bowl games.

yeah i think 8ball has the right idea. i would go with the 16 teams playingoff from T-Day though and not 8. 8 just doesnt seem like enough to adequately represent the Country's best. IMO.
