Very interesting...and mad props to you for the cliff notes. That's definitely helpful.

However, being a noob and not knowing my ass from my elbow when it comes to steel, welding, bumpers in general, and eBay, I'm still curious about the quality. Definitely looks good on his truck, but obviously there's other reasons for a bumper, like safety. Can anyone at least hypothesize on the overall quality and reliability of this knockoff? Thanks for all the help and info!

Got my new shallow mount pioneer 10 inch sub yesterday to replace the cheap kenwood I blew the first day I installed it. Now have to get a new amp power wire, new speaker wires to connect the sub to the box connectors, and make the hole bigger so the new sub will fit and get it all hooked up.

How do you like the bed adjustable rod that you show in the last picture ? I debating on one of those or the Toyota ($$) version. Any recommendations ?

That's what the general consensus was.

Most people on this site who get a plate bumper get it for off roading. You have a better approach angle and if you hit it on stuff at low speed, it's fine. On the topic of that specific bumper, in my opinion it appears to be just fine and you're not going to be any less safe as opposed to a name brand bumper or the stock bumper.

That's just a cheap version from Walmart. Think I paid $20 for it... For the price, it's been great. Don't really haul anything super heavy though, so if you do I'd probably suggest something a bit more hefty. Normal camping gear and other relatively light stuff it should be fine for though, just not for a truckload of travertine tiles or anything.

Not sure what thread you read or what pictures you were looking at but it looked like it was held together with tack welds. Fine for the mall, not fine for dropping a winch in and doing any real recovery.

    That was the consensus.

No need to get off topic here, so I'll end with this. The pics Patch92 posted was of the welds on the inside of the bumper. Numerous welders said that that's fine for the inside as it'd just be a waste of material to fully weld the inside. The true teller would be the outer welds, but those comparisons were never posted.

Now back to you're regular program folks!
