I've been getting 18mpg with 60/40 mixed country driving. Keeping speeds at 60mph and under helps greatly. If I bomb along at 75-80mph it drops to 15 and change to 16. This is with 265/75 E-rated Duratracs which did about a 1.5mpg hit on fuel economy across the board. I average about 16mpg.

With my Dunlops I got 20 mpg on the highway at 65mph and under and 19 at 75 mph.

    It's your rack!

I average 20 even with a lot of city and mountain runs. Although I only have 265/75....they are E load though.

    random thought.
the venerable Chevy 350 would get low to mid 20's for mileage, while pushing a full size chunk of 'Merican iron down the road, with a carbonator. And it sounded bad ass too.

I feel sorry for the generation that has missed out on these simple to work on, high output engines. You didn't need a degree in geek to work on them either.

Still better power to weight than your grocery getter, while beating the EPA estimates.

    My thought:
Why don't automakers produce "high output" and "high efficiency" versions of the same motor, similar to the LS engines? For example, I'm certain Toyota could've tuned the 4.0 by changing the timing, compression, computer, etc, creating an engine with higher efficency capabilities. Then they would perform the same process creating a high(er) performance capable engine.

My Tundra is hammering out 17.3 MPG, v8 power!

If you are complaining about fuel mileage, I suggest you tape a raw egg (rotten would be better) on top of your gas pedal. Instant fuel MPG improvement!

Yeap. Gas goes in, gas goes away, repeat! It's a truck with big tires and lots of shit to weigh it down. Fuel economy is the last thing on my mind. If I am in the desert I just weigh it down more by packing in more fuel for it to consume. :D
