3rd gen Access Cab Bed Lights Using Double Cab Cargo Light Switch?

This topic may have been discussed although I searched and found nothing related. I have the Toyota LED bed lights, since I own an access cab I don't have the factory off-door-on cargo light switch which comes standard on the double cab. I'll have to operate my bed lights with either the key fob or door which is somewhat inconvenient. I have the part numbers and located the OE cargo light switch (

84267-0C020) and required 3-hole switch plate (55446-04030-C0). When doing some preliminary research I found an unused connector just below my 120v inverter switch and would like to know if this is the connector used for the D-cab's cargo light switch? I'd much prefer to have the functionality of the D-cab's cargo light switch as opposed to key fob and door.

Looks like a 10-pin connector using 6 pins(4 for control + 2 for illumination).
Might have a problem with your ECU supporting it.

 

Thanks spiltbolt, I'll have to check the connector with my multimeter. I'm still waiting to meet up with a bud who bought a '16 DCSB TRD Sport 4x2, I'm hoping the unused connector in my ACLB is the same plugged into to his cargo light switch, that's half the battle right there, my multimeter will confirm if I have ECU support, if so I'll be ordering the parts ASAP! Thanks again!

Update:

Headway has been made, today I finally had the chance to install the lights, run and secure the wiring along the frame rail up into the cab where it now resides behind the driver's side kick panel. I spoke to my buddy and we're going to get together this Sunday so I can determine once and for all if the off-door-on cargo light switch on his DCLB will work on my ACLB. I am now in possession of the complete 2016 wiring diagram but haven't had the time to decipher it. I'm hoping this will work and will report back with my findings.

I can say I wasn't terribly impressed with the wiring that comes with the LED lights, it's too long and I for one cannot stand "hiding" wire that's not cut to proper length. I had to break out my Weather Pack goodies and make it right, now the connection from each light is made just inside the rear bumper on the driver's side, all nice, serviceable and neat the way it should.

 

Update:

I made some time to decipher the wiring diagram then dig into my dash panel this morning to confirm some things. Yes, the unused connector (D35) clipped into a dead placeholder is indeed the connector which would connect to the D-cab's Cargo Lamp switch. The connector does have power on the appropriate pins leading me to believe it IS supported by the Body ECU. I also read no dead short on the IE1 (pin 14) conductor which is supposed to run to the cargo light, meaning it's properly terminated just no light/s. In the fuse block located under the LH dash there IS a 7.5a fuse in place for the D-cab's cargo light further digging found the only component missing is the D-cab's cargo light relay which is a simple fix.

I will be ordering the three (3) components listed below once installed I (hopefully) should have "off-door-on" functionality of my newly installed bed lights. I will update once again when all the parts have arrived, been installed and tested.

Update:

YES! If you order the parts I've listed in the above post (#8) and have half a mechanical aptitude clue, you too can have an ACLB and use a factory D-cab cargo light off-door-on switch to control it. You will however have to dig a little further to tap into the switch leg which is NOT in connector IE1 but behind the relay block with the 2 little blue relays but is still a light green wire. When you're done there will be 3 little blue relays, you'll be adding yours in the middle of the 2 that are existing. All else will be wired as per the instructions included with the Toyota LED bed light kit for a Double Cab.

I have to assume this will work with ANY bed light kit and could also be used to control lighting under the hood so long as your total load does not exceed 7.5 amps. I intend to add under hood lighting off this circuit controlled by this switch in the future. No, there are no issues with the Body ECU and yes it is backlit and dimmable and matches the 2016 blue backlighting.

Photos or it didn't happen photos and remember that switch isn't supposed to be there according to Toyota and not supposed to work according to some too.

 

How bright are these lights? I know the under rail one really light up the whole bed area, any chance you can post a picture when its darker out.

 

I checked that last night and I was pleasantly surprised with how much light they put out. They definitely light up the entire bed but remember I have a tonneau cover so my lighting needs may be different from others. I will take a photo tonight.

 

Update:

I apologize for not getting photos of the lights on at night last night, I was otherwise engaged. Here are 2 photos taken at 10:45p EST tonight. As I said these actually light up the bed quite nicely and were well worth the investment in time and money.

This thread is exactly what I was looking for. So glad this can work. The only thing I lack is the electrical knowledge. If I have to mess with the fuse panel, I'm screwed haha. No idea how to do anything electrical. I wish you took pictures of this process!

 

I'm looking to trigger a relay for other lights off this switch. Mine IS a DC and I have the switch but can't figure out where to tap in. Where were these blue relays you speak of? Under the hood or inside?

Watching, my 07 D.C. Doesn't have a bed light switch, just a blank plate.

Ha anyone tried just installing a switch like the attached photo right next to one of the lights. I would assume I could tie into the tail light power. I saw the photo on Amazon.

Lights are mounted, switch works perfectly (I can hear the relay click on or off) now I need to know where the power from the relay comes out.
