Only because the big chunk of metal hanging down in the front generally looks bad and does nothing for ground clearance. Thankfully on the Tacoma it's relatively small. Is what it is though, can't go big lift without it unless you go SAS

Ride is great, took it off-road for the first time taking this pic yesterday and it felt really solid. I'm running 285/70/17 KO2's, on 17x8 FN FX Pro wheels

So my transmission would shift perfectly fine (for what thats worth) before putting larger tires on, and now it shifts all messed up. Cruises on the freeway at 2500 RPM's, constantly switching gears. Would having the dealer do a transmission relearn so that it learns the shift points on the new tires fix this problem? Anyone have this happen or try this?

Not likely. Larger diameter tires rotate slower and result in lower RPMs than stock. That may cause your RPMs to be too low at certain speeds to be in higher gears, so the truck will downshift and thus be at higher RPMs all the time.People usually do a regear to address this issue.

What size tires did you buy?

My buddy has the same tires since new, with wheels that are 12 pounds heavier. His truck is much better

I hate to ask, but I guess I have to . Have you had your transmission fluid checked?

No, but the truck shifter fine before the larger tires. That is why I think it's the shift points

I'd recommend having it checked. You could also request that they reset the memory for the transmission then as well. Two birds with one stone.

With a 6in suspension lift, will I need to do any drive shaft work, cb drop, etc?
Has anyone with aftermarket wheels/tires changed the gear ratio?... is it required? might help with the rpm/shifting issue..
    Cheers

Right now I have 265-70-17. I think I'm going to move to 275. They look great now but I think 275 will look better. Sttpro isn't made in a 275 though

I have the Icon stage 2 kit left at preset settings. Still running stock wheels and tires. But I'm debating 275s and 285s

I left mine at preset as well. 285 isn't my thing. 265 or 275 look great and are still functional. Too much trimming with 285.

Hey guys. Quick question. I'm coming from driving F150s my whole life to the Tacoma. I'm ordering a TRD OR 4x4 and I was wondering how some of you guys feel about lift and tire clearance. I want to get the Icon stage 3 kit with 285/75/17 Toyo AT 2 and the FX pro 17x8s do you guys think this will fit? I live in Colorado and will be off-roading occasionally but nothing extreme.
