Anyone know anything about these packs on Massdrop? They're apparently owned by the company that owns RAB and the quality is supposed to be good. I really like the features and it's light, especially for the price.

Link just gives me the massdrop main page and I ain't signing up or in.

If it's a Lowe Alpine pack like the link indicates, I had one and loved it! In the SE, it was my go-to summer pack at 33L plus floating lid and collar. Gave me about 40L.

I only ditched it because after years of use, it finally blew a seam. I have so many packs, it was t worth repairing. Some days I wish I had though...

I am leaning towards getting the Osprey Talon 33. It's a 33L but is still under 2 lbs. I think the Kestrel 32 "looks" better for functionality but it's nearly 3 lbs!

I have the Talon 33 also. (Don't judge me!) we use that as our day pack for 2. Holds everything we both need in one pack.
The main difference from the Kestrel is rigidity in the frame. Talon is soft frame sheet, kestrel (IIRC) has aluminum stays?

I already have a Daylite, but want something a little bigger. I carry a big DSLR around too, so the ability to stow it in a pack easily would be nice. Otherwise, the 22 would prob work.

What kind of freak would you think I am if I said I have the Daylite too??

As for carrying a DSLR and having a day pack, I use a LowePro Photo Sport 200 backpack

Nice! I'm still leaning that way, especially since you can get it for like $30 cheaper on Amazon (actually, REI is doing the $20 card right now with a $100 purchase, plus I'd get a likely $13 dividend...worth it!). I really am intrigued by the LowePro AW200 (a friend of mine actually has one too), but I just think the Osprey will be much more versatile and comfortable. I'll buy soft protective lens cases/sleeves if needed.

The big advantage of the LowePro is the side compartment for the camera. For me, it's easier to access that than a top loading pack like the Osprey for a camera, because I'm frequently in and out with it.

Yeah, but I will be using a Peak Design CapturePro clip either on my belt or the backpack strap, so I shouldn't be having to go in and out very much. I've used a sling up until I ordered that clip anyway, so I'm used to keeping it out most of the time.

i gotta find something that will make the shoulder straps on my Osprey Daylite not rub inside front edges of my armpits. On our recent trip, it rubbed pretty bad and I wasnt overloaded on gear at all

Good for a survival bag, but those things are never a true 5000mAh (more like 2000) and they take days in direct sunlight to charge. Better than nothing if you need that extra few % on your phone for an emergency call though.

4 more weeks until Onion Valley through to Whitney! July is pack training month at altitude before we head out. Can't wait to be out there for a week to get away from this heat in AZ.

That's better than 118! Yosemite valley gets darn hot. Luckily we will rarely drop below 10,000' on this trip and I'm hoping that there's not one of these weird high pressure fronts rolling through which has been baking us for 2 weeks.

Oh, and my Revelation quilt is now scheduled to ship to me the week before our trip so I'll have a new toy to enjoy.
