Do you guys use rebar by code in your area ?

 

Not required. However, they are putting it in after inspection, before pouring. He said something about the inspectors failing them more when he puts the rebar in first so he started going back and doing it after.

The way it was explained to me is, it is not required, but if there, it needs to be a certain way (obviously). If it is not absolutely perfect, they will not pass you and re-inspection is needed. When I did the footings for the shop I called the codes dept. to verify if I needed it or not. I spoke to the inspector and he told me it was not required (I did not put any in the footings for the shop).

When the guys came to did the footers for the house I had asked them about the rebar. He told me they are not going to put it in until after the inspection. He had more fail with the rebar installed prior to inspection than after. They are pouring Friday and I will be there all day working on the shop.

 

Footings passed, pour tomorrow.

Oh cool , didn't realize they could drive right in , that makes it easier and cheaper

 

If only they could pour the walls out of the truck. They will bring a pumper in for them, and it will probably be a boom truck.

 

Holy crap I'm worn out today. Tons of excitement, between finishing the siding on the building and watering down the footers, I'm whooped. It was 95* here today. Ready for a drink.

 

At one point they were running two trucks at a time.

 

Those backwards facing cement trucks always trip me out.

Here is the rebar. If installed prior to inspection, it needs to be grounded 8' and also a lead tied to the main panel. Amongst other things, too much of a head ache to deal with if not required. So they put it in after

 

Must feel pretty awesome building your own house and shop! Looks to me like a pretty stellar location!

 

Yes, location is sweet. I built homes for other people for about 10 years and never thought anything about it. Now, doing it for myself I'm scared to death.
