I've seen quite a few members run the setup I'm talking about without issue. I don't think you should do it if you offroad hardcore but I don't so it works for me. Plus I'm a cheap skate so the cheaper route is the way I went. Coilovers will come when I feel like dropping $1500+

Wouldn't happen with RCD Bilstein either.

Damn! I stand corrected. I'd like to know the story behind that.

Are those the rcd bilsteins or just regular adjustable 5100s?

The one pictured above is not the bilstein included in the RCD 5" kit. It's the adjustable 5100.

So I am going to buy some ucas tomorrow. I have a total of 7.5 inches of lift from my rcd bilsteins and eibach coils then I have a 1.5 inch top plate spacer on top. So about 9 inches of total lift. My uppers are hitting my coils as of now because I have a bigger spacer up there which will be swapped for the 1.5s I mentioned. I've been told to buy tc uca over them all. How about icons ? Once I swap spacers I will have my uca at a way better angle so does one set of ucas do a better job than the other?

TC, DK or Camburg is the way to go there.
TCs are on sale at Toytec now, 10% off.

I say TC and DK 1st. They use a 1" FN uniball that you can get easily once they need a refresh

Ill try to be a bit more specific. Its personal preferences really..

Icons use these tapered bolt that will fit into the spindle and be tightened with the misalignment spacer at the bottom and a cap (purchased separately) at the top.

TC is a bit different with a solid grade 8 bolt through the misalignment spacers at the top and bottom.

Ok I'm a newb to this subject so is the tapered bolt better than the grade 8 bolt? And I would think the dust cap will help prolong the uniball on the icons. But the tc uppers don't have a protective cap? So it really is about preference because I can't seem to find a definitive answer to which is actually better than the other unless one has more capabilities than the other but that doesn't seem to be the case. Thanks for the info bro.

The cap is nice, but i haven't had an issue with my TCs in 50k. Still going strong. I personally like the dual misalignment spacer and it woukd be easier to replace that bolt if a break did happen.

Again, its preferences. Im a TC fanboy and for good reason. The TCs are race proven and a great company.
Dirt King is another brand worth a look into. Heard nothing but good there as well.

The dust cap has actually proven to do more harm than good if you don't take it off weekly and clean it out because anything that does get in there stays in there such as moisture. People have pulled those caps off after a year and found horror stories under there.

Bro...it is the exact same shock body and construction as stock or a 5100. The RCD is basically just an extended 5100. The fundamental problem of the design and construction remains with any and all " OE style " CO's with that stupid skinny stalk welded to the bottom of a hollow shock body tube...let that marinade in the brain for a few...a 1/4" rod welded to the bottom of a hollow tube cap supports the whole damn show...it's a f-n miracle more of them don't fail. There are probably 20 threads a year with collapsed stalks like that, heck there was just a thread this week too.

Almost every story is the same too - pot hole hits, it's never heroic off-roading that destroys them just a harsh sudden impact of a pothole.
