You need to use the lap belt in the middle.

Heads up on the new California car seat law:

Effective January 1, 2017 - Children under 2 years of age shall ride in a rear-facing car seat unless the child weighs 40 or more pounds OR is 40 or more inches tall.

So those 30 or 35-pounder seats (like our Chicco Keyfit 30 we have) will not be compliant.

I didn't understand the question yesterday and obviously didn't answer it correctly.

Middle kid's seat has its own belt that clips on to the truck's car seat attachment points. Upper restraint is tied into the loop behind the seat. Back and under seat storage are pretty much dead to me, and reserved for flat tire repair stuff, rarely used tools and recovery gear (e.g., snap ring pliers, Hi-lift recovery kit).

It is not a question of rear mount. I is the seat's weight capacity/size for kids 40 lb or 40 inches tall.

So this weekend a lot of people bailed on me so i probably wont be exploring. I dont like to explore alone and one vehicle in case something happens. But ill be fishing so that kind of makes up for it.
