Trouba can be a beast for sure. His potential is great. Sadly he is naturally strong and has not developed a good work ethic with his training . He also likes his nose candy I understand. I would happily see him get a long term 5 Million per deal to stick around. If the Bruins offer 7×7 as is rumoured, that is insane.

Wish I had the exact numbers but since capgeek went down nobody has duplicated it. But I remember that was the basics of it. They front loaded it so much that they already paid him 24+ mil more then the average cap hit. Montreal really cant buy him out though with the deal or they get next to no cap space. When he is 37+ hes only making 1 mil a year so it would be like a 7+ mil cap hit. Bad contract all the way around

When shit hit the fan the media put a microphone in Subbans face. He handled it well but the coach through him under the bus a few times for playing too flashy and the fans began to sing the same tune.

 

BTW it looks like Weber is owed ~42 million still out of 110 million dollars total contract with a cap hit of $7,857,142 per year.

Subban is owed ~69 million out of 72 million with a cap hit of $9,000,000 per year.

Those values assume that the bonus for 2016-2017 has already been paid out to each player. If not it's 50 million for Weber total and 74 million for Subban. I'm not sure how that adds up to 74 million for Subban but I bet it's because of how the bonus is done.

Either way this move frees up about $1.2 million in cap space for Montreal with an older player who is actually owed less total money than Subban. Seconds thoughts from management and ownership maybe...

You are dead right though about what happens after age 35. That contract will count as a $7,857,142 per year cap hit no matter what Montreal does once Weber hits 35.

 

Not exactly 7857142, thats only if he signed before 35. But with the salary so low, the buyout only subtracts 1/3 the salary so its still 7+ mil. Its just a disastrous contract for both teams. Habs only get saved if he retires. They will still be hit with a small recapture fee (not sure the numbers but would be something) but not much
