Anybody run JBA headers?

    Fox 2.0 Coilovers in the front and Fox 2.0’s in the rear, Total Chaos UCA’s, Al-lpro expo leafs, K&N cold air intake, TRD headers,Magnaflow catback exhaust,URD short throw shifter, switched out my 60/40 bench seat for some Tacoma Limited seats, Replaced the vinyl shift boot for a leather one, completely soundproofed the cab w/ Frost King. Replaced stock radio with a Pioneer AVH series head unit. Focal component system w/a 10" sub powered by 2 Alpine amps. Weathertech floor mats. Line-X'd the bed. SCS Ray 10’s, Installed an A.R.E. MX series camper shell. All-Pro Apex front bumper w/ All-Pro skid plates all the way back to the Trans. Low Range fuel skid plate.
    I'm looking into getting some headers and all I'm coming up with is that both JBA's and D.T's are not only a pain to install but they leak. Any info on the gains from each company on 1st gens and what will I expect to $$$ for install. I know I could install them but I don't have welder...

    if you dont have supercharger or turbo dont bother.

    Meh. Thats debatable.
    A good set of headers and free flowing mufflers/cat back can easily gain 7-10hp.

    I would check LC engineering.

    I've heard headers on the 3.4 N/A isn't worth the money nor effort. Headers open up the 4cyls, but not worthwhile on the V6s

    I'm getting them because I plan on supercharging it. I figure get it ready now so the s/c isn't restricted when I install it. I'm just wondering about quality. Is Doug Thorley really worth the $200+ or would the JBA's be fine? I e emailed LCE and URD to see if I could get some dyno tests on the 5VZFE. I've also read with headers+s/c, cold air intake and water meth kit you could be getting close to 300hp. Not bad for a v6.

    The dts dyno a 8-10hp gain starting around 2000rpm and about 15hp peak.

    If you're naturally aspirated you won't see any gains till like 8k rpm. Not really necessary unless you're s/c and running 8-12 psi.

    Had jba on a n/a and they didn't do much and leaked. Sounded great though!

    Gadget from URD had said somewhere in a post that they had since corrected any leaking problems but told me that the Doug Thorley's are pretty easy to install, the hard part are getting the stock ones off which he suggested cutting them off with a sawzall from the flange.

    '04 TRD 3.4l 4x4 5sp manual Xtraca & '96 4runner 4x4 5spd manual
    If you can get your hands on a set of TRD headers (been discontinued for awhile now) I highly recommend them. Have them on my '04 with the supercharger and I love 'em, they sound great too. I've seen a few go up for sale on this forum since I joined.

    Just save for the DT's. Never heard a good thing about jba and never heard a bad thing about DT.

    I've seen them once on here, they go quick. It pisses me off that the 1st gens have such a following but it's so hard to find good quality parts.

    Unless it's a race truck, what's the point? I've never really understood performance mods for an ass-slow truck. It's kind of a waste. And if you get larger tires you can just regear. That's just me though. Save your money and put it elsewhere where it will have more value.

    I guess because I really enjoy my Tacoma, it's an everyday driver. Who doesn't like a little more HP. I'm doing this in preparation for a supercharger which with all the mods I should see somewhere around the 300 mark. That's a lot more fun on the low end than the 140 or so it comes with. I'm single, no kids...too late in the game, I'm satisfied with my investments and retirement plan so why not if it brings a little sunshine into this little heart of mine :)

    You put performance mods on a slow ass truck so its not such a slow ass truck.

    Your truck has 190 hp. The supercharger puts it at about 236 if I recall correctly. You're not going to see 300 unless you run pretty high boost and build the engine.
