3.4L TRD Supercharger rebuild

Well I got mine s/c all put back together, now just waiting on a new gasket for the intake. In the mean time, with the s/c rebuilt, what should it sound like when i spin the pulley? Should it be dead quiet or should it have a bit of a whir? (hopefully that makes sense)

 

It will always have a whir, now if you have resistance or grinding then you would have a problem.

 

Thanks! For the life of me, I could not remember what it sounded like. There does seem to be a slight amount of resistance, but I will double check tonight when I get back home.

 

Because the gears are straight cut you should always get a bit of a whir sound to it.

 

Alright I swear my final question on this subject. I have the supercharger back on and connecting the throttle body but the gasket that the toyota dealerships gave me looks wrong, or at least I think it's wrong. They swear up and down its fine, but what are your thoughts about using the one they gave me.

Black is old, silver is new.

 

Like normal the dealership is retarded. I took the metal gasket and opened it up to a full circle for the proper airflow. Toyota started putting out the full circle gaskets later on. I wonder why the dealership is still putting out the old gasket.

 

The silver is wrong, it's the old non-SC one and will cause vacuum leaks.

 

Yea that's exactly what I thought too. Went and got a sheet of that cut your own stuff. Will do that later tonight.

 

@TashcomerTexas did you finish yours? I need help ASAP. I just put my new rotor in and when spinning the pulley there is some resistance when the lobes "catch" and if I spun it fast it is not even close to silent. You can here the lobes hitting eachother. Thump thump thump . Was yours like this?

Mine wasn't like that, even before opening it up. It would spin freely and there wasn't really any noticeable noise. Not sure if it'll be different between the gen 1 and 2.

 

Ok it spins freely now. BUT you can here the rotor making sounds when you spin the pulley with your hand. Did yours do that?

 

Only when it was laying down since its at an angle and not naturally flat, and it was very minimal. Maybe it's your needle bearings?

 

I also had an aha moment before I opened it, since there was tape over the intake part spinning the pulley in one direction would cause the rotors to push air and it would make a noise against the tape. If I spun in the opposite direction it wouldn't do it as no air was being pushed into the intake part. That's about the only noise I would generate.

 

Laying down as in how it would sit on the motor??

 

On my floor, since the gen 1 is a two piece design the intake part doesn't allow it to lay flat naturally.

Got it installed and its 10x louder. Now I have to send in the entire supercharger. I very much regret going supercharged....

 

Damn sorry to hear man, at least you've got to enjoy yours. Mines been in the box for 3 years. I hope buying the rotor wasn't for nothing cause I'm sure they'll charge you a pretty penny to service it.
