What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Canada day bondfire prep.

 

My 98 tacoma gas tank shield was pretty rusted so i cut the bad out and welded new metal in

 

I spy an fx4 level 2. The coveted and rare Ranger package.

 

My buddies. Theres quite a few of these around here. Its a pretty nice truck despite what some on here might say. Only thing is is that its LOW! Lower than my taco was stock and it scrapes the t bar crossmember on even small obstacles. Not sure if he plans to lift and mod it yet.

 

Yeah, I loved my Rangers. Those level IIs sometimes had leather and a unique chrome shifer. Pretty cool trucks.

 

Took a lot of stuff out.

 

Hmm.... Spindle gussets, uniball uca's, and ADS coilovers? Not like I or anything....

 

You got it! Hopefully it doesn't take to long, but that's never the case.

 

Spend hours doing research on the exact size and torques specs of everything, estimate it to take a couple days. 4 days later and it still looks the same.

Made pretty.

Painted it so it wouldn't be so obvious with the fenders.

 

I bought some degreaser from Auto zone, sprayed it off with my garden hose and then wiped all the black with a cloth and a spray bottle interior shine.

 

I really do love your paint job.

 

I went to the Toyota dealer and bought, upper and lower ball joints, upper and lower control arm bushings and sway bar bushings. I was able to order the bushing replacements for the LCA (had them pressed in by a local machine shop) but had to buy the whole assembly for the UCA. It wasn't cheap but I feel OEM parts are better than after market parts. I also bought OEM (soft) brake lines for the front end. I'm going to complete that project tomorrow. Unfortunately, I had to buy after market tie rods because of my budget. It took me two days (when I had time) to replace the ball joints and control arm bushings, but it was time well spent. After I replace the brake lines I'm going to get an alignment and take it for a test drive. Satisfied for now... The rear differential is my next worry.

 

You sure that isn't a brand new 1st gen? Thing is clean!!!

 

The clear coat on my hood was looking terrible. Sanded it down and painted it. The roof needs some work now.

 

Im a fan of matte black. I think it looks pretty good.
