Hello tacoma ppl. Can someone help me and tell me if any of you all had this same issue. So I have a 2000 tacoma 2.7l automatic and recently it takes time to turn on I have to turn steering wheel and turn ignition key millions of times to turn it on. When I turn ignition the cables from starter to batery make a clicking sound and start getting hot. At Firsttrue would turn on after 5 times of turning ignition, and NOW I got to do it at least 15 to 20 times and pass cables. ANY OPINIONS ON WHAT MIGHT BE WRONG?

Have you tested the battery? Check that your battery clamps are tight? Failing ignition lock cylinder? starter solenoid failing? blown fuses? Help us out by telling us what you have checked already.

Is the problem with the ignition key not turning easily (hence moving the steering wheel), or is it that you feel turning the steering wheel helps the starter engage?

    Loose connections cause heat.

It is possible you have a poor ground

Sounds like it's the classic Toyota starter solenoid contact problem. All Toyotas used a similar starter internally, so just do a search for "Toyota starter contacts" and you will find info and pictures. Check your battery and cables first since taking out the starter is a pain.

Just a quick summary , your description makes it very dificult to understand what you are trying to convey.
When you turn the key on , turn the headlights on , parked where you can see the lights , like a garage door.
Wben you turn the key to start, watch for your lights to either get very dim , or stay bright.
If they do get dim while in the cranking position, you have either a weak battery , or bad cable connections.
Dont be fooled thinking because the cable end at the battery is clean and tight , that the other end might be corroded .
A positive cable is easier to detect corrosion as the insulation will turn pink in color.
The ground is a lot more difficult .
