I am punch drunk from reading all the posts and answers on this forum (How long can a Maui Wowie high last? Maybe early stage dementia?).

The previous owner doesn't seem to have serviced my truck. The only thing I have confirmed the previous owner serviced is the belt and water pump. Dumb shit.

Most of the mechanical problems have been attended to except the dash clock. Dumb shits.

My question is: which antifreeze, which brake fluid, which transmission fluid?
Have I missed anything? I hope there is an alternative to Toyota's products.

    2002 Tacoma Prerunner, 2WD, auto, 2wd, V6, 140,000 miles.

I have been using full synthetic motor oil and Toyota filters. Two oil changes so far.

I really do use your advise! Thanks in advance

So you must not have you manual that comes with the truck usually located in the glove box? All the info is in there.

I have a great respect for the knowledge and experience of the members here who are willing to share and try to help members who have none ! Then, of course, there are those members that think sharing is too far below their lofty perch.

    I really appreciate your advice.

So any DOT4 brake fluid is ok? I will visit Toyota Monday for the antifreeze (My poor MasterCard). The transmission service garages around here feel that any brand works but I don't trust them with my baby.

    Many thanks

Toyota Type IV transmission fluid. And it wouldn't hurt to hunt yourself up a manual.

If you are going to the Stealer, ask them what type Tranny fluid you need. Get the OEM, ya never can go wrong. Are you going to just change the trans filer? If so, 4 quarts should do fine. It takes a heck of a lot of fluid to do a full flush, depending on mileage, some say flush it, some say don't. I had mine flushed anyway when I bought it. Oh yeah, DOT 4 is fine, even mixes with DOT3. I use Castrol.

    5w-30 for the 3.4, not 10w-30.

Depends where he is, Gets hot in Atlanta and hardly any freezes. I use the 10 being in Texas heat and having bought it with 218K. YMMV.

I went to the link and read everything. I think I am in trouble!!! The tranny info talks about refill vs flush. The fluid in my tranny is DARK and I bet SHITHEAD never changed the fluid. If I read the info correctly, the tranny might be on it's way out. Do you think a flush might be helpful or a waste of time and money?

    Thanks

Side suggestion is visit a Toyota Dealer for a drain plug gasket for the transmission plug, they don't like being reused, same goes for the diff if you feel inclined.

    I have a 2004 v6 with 200K. I changed all fluids when I bought the truck with 184k.
Transmission fluid is T-IV on 2004. I did drain and refilled 3 times . Drive around 100 miles between the refill, so new fluid can mix with old one.
    DoT3 for brakes
    Mobile 1 for differential
I paid guys from castrol to flush radiator
And transmission fluid Dexron 3 for steering whell

It's red Toyota antifreeze, not pink.

2004s take pre-diluted pink. 2003 and earlier uses red, diluted with distilled water 50/50

Really? That's odd to me that 1st Gens use a different coolant on the in 2004. I just assumed it was red dilutater with water cause that's what my '02 takes
