so what is the difference between a cold air kit and a drop in air filter

so what is the difference between a cold air kit and a drop in air filter? I am torn between the two and many of you have stated to get a drop in (which I am grateful for), but I don't know what the main difference is between the two.

 

on a cai...it opens up the filter area for "more air"...but lotsa times...its getting hot air from the engine. and they only get the most use in high rpms. as for a drop in....they are alot less than a cai.......but you can get mileage gains since they flowe a good bit better than a stock filter. get you an afe pro dry s and call it a day.

 

Depends on what CAI you get Will. I UAE the Volant, and I've noiced a gain in MPG.

Yes there are... and some are waaaaay more expensive than others too *cough cough* K&N haha.

 

personally....for the price of what most cai's cost.........i think they are all too expensive. i'll stick with a good drop in filter......already had my days of having cai's...and im over it.
