All you homos with your manuals...it's too hard to drink and drive when you gotta worry about shifting gears.

Truest statement ever. I HATE talking on the phone and driving my truck and absolutely will not do it. Texting is a different story lol.

... hang out with this guy, 'Tater', my 11 yr old Boxer for a couple hours. We've had him since 8 weeks and he has grown old and collected a multitude of health issues. We're just enjoying the time we have left and making the best of it!

Enjoy the time for sure, I had a 14 yr old mini Ausstrailian Shepard. Absolutely broke my heart when he passed. Took me a while to get over it even though I knew his time was near. Biggest comfort was the fact I didn't have to make the choice to put him down. He started having seizures and trouble walking. The vet said they could possibly do surgery for the tumor he had but at his age I just didn't think it necessary to put him through it even if he could've made it, not to mention the cost. The weekend he died he got so bad he couldn't walk and by that Sunday night he wanted to go outside and was walking towards the woods so I knew it was time. I was planning to lay out of work that Monday morning to take him to the vet and probably have to make that horrible decision but he didn't make it through the night. He always slept by the bed beside me. He kept waking us up yelping and my wife was about 7 months pregnant at the time so I carried him into the living room and laid him down beside the couch so I could lay down and pet him while letting my wife get her rest. He just looked at me and all of a sudden dropped his head and I watched as he took his last breath. I've lost other pets before but he was my buddy. I never knew a pet would have such an effect on me. Ironically he passed 4 years ago today.

So I wish and pray for your time with him and for comfort for you when that time comes because I know all too well how hard it can be.

Man, I hate to hear that for y'all. My wife and I don't have chirrens so our animals literally are like our kids.

    image.jpg image.jpg

This is Buck. My wife and I got him shortly after we got married and got our first house on base. He was just like a child to us, and like you Mike, he always slept on my side of the bed, or in the hallway facing the front door. Always liked to think that was his way of keeping us safe and being there as backup for me as I always sleep on the side of the bed closest to the bedroom door so I can neutralize threats sooner haha. Lost him A year ago back in April. Our front screen door didn't latch and I didn't realize it as we were on the back porch and he nudged the door open and managed to run across a busy highway and not get hit. When I noticed he was missing I started calling for him and then heard the tires screeching and him yelp. I'm not even gonna lie, I was a crying blubbering idiot while I was trying to dig his grave and make his little grave stone.

The South River near Panola Mountain. It is a beautiful spot. Minus all the trash the drunks and losers won't carry out!
That is so hard. We probably won't be able to hold out that long. He still gets crazy excited when we come home, at breakfast and dinner, when going for walks or rides. Its so hard to believe his body is failing.
Thank you for sharing your difficult story and expressing you concern.
Thanks for sharing also, Auddie. Tater sleeps in front of the fireplace... He can see all three bedrooms and 3 of the 4 entrances to the house. You would have to get by him to get to people! Some people just have dogs. For us, they are family.

This is a great bunch of guys. Glad I found this forum!

The wife and I just had our first dog we got together pass a few months ago. He slept with us every night and I almost fought friends over him for making fun of him lol. He was like my child. Sadly in April we were at a friend's wedding shower and he got hit by a car. I literally laid in bed with my wife for like 2 days crying...called in sick to work and everything. Fortunately, with time it gets better and you just think of happy memories, opposed to the thought of them not being here anymore. I had a friend make a video for my wife's birthday (The dog and her shared a b-day) and another friend made a cool headstone for us

    video

Edit: another friend had a painting done for us, as well...we were obsessed with that little guy lol

We lost our first family pet last November to old age. We had to make the call. We knew it was coming, we accepted it and didn't let him suffer. 6 days later, a newly acquired dog got bit 7 times by copperheads at home while we were on our way to Tennessee for a week. My mom was sitting them and rushed him to the 24hr vet. We came home the next morning and moved him to our regular vet, but only held on for 2 days. They said they had never seen that many 'wet' bites. Had to have been multiple snakes. That was a lot more difficult to handle than the old guy. I wept while digging for 4 hours in the rock solid Georgia clay in a stanky 85°, 75% humidity evening, by work light. I wasn't gonna let it wait till morning. Tater sat somberly watching. Still walks back there everyday, circles, and walks back. :( That has been deemed the most expensive vacation that would never end.

I'm not too far from panola mtn, may have to run up to that spot sometime!
