What sights are you running? Thinking of eventually picking up a set of truglo or something along those lines.

This might seem like a stupid question but I'm anot an AR guy...

Isn't the upper held on to the lower with 2 pins that are kinda easy to push out? What makes Rugers takedown AR special?

Looks like the barrel is held like the 10/22 takedowns

So basically it breaks down to 3 parts instead of 2: lower, upper reciever/hg, and barrel.

    Bud's prices
    SR556 - $1100
    SR556 Takedown - $1600

$500 seems a lot to be able to swap out a barrel on the fly to me...you can almost get 3 complete DI ARs for the price of the takedown..

Anyone have experience with vortex optics?
Probably gonna order a vortex viper HS-T (I think that's it) 4-16x44 tomorrow with the sales going on now.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
I have a Vortex HS LR 6-24x50 FFP on the OD Green Howa above. I also put a Strike Fire II on a 9mm AR15 I have.

I absolutely love their optics. They may be made in China (most glass is) but they're VERY solid optics and their warranty is second to none. If it's any measure I'm converting any scoped rifle I have to Vortex slowly.

It's not so much where the glass is made, it's the quality of the glass, the quality of the coatings, the quality of the process used to apply the coatings, and the strength and design of the internal parts to withstand repeated recoil and hold zero over time. For the money, I just can't see going Vortex over other scopes in the same price range. For me, Leupold, zeiss, and Swarovski for hunting scopes and Nightforce on a working rifle. Also, I'd rather have better quality in a smaller, lighter scope than less quality in a bigger, heavier scope for the same money. Most of the time mirage won't let you use anything over 20X anyway, even though that much magnification is rarely needed.

You're assuming any of these are poor without trying Vortex products.

Same as the above. Assuming they're poor compared to many Leupold and other products. If you're going to talk Nightforce or Swarovski compared to Leupold or Vortex you're comparing Ferrari's to Supras. Double the price and ultimately it's gonna "go fast" on the freeway just as well as the other.

    I don't see how that's relevant.

    Also not relevant.

I've used the Vortex. Compared them side by side for clarity, color, and resolution. I'll pass.

If you don't think paying more for bigger, lower quality glass and unusable magnification is relevant, then I'll leave you to it. It's your gun, not mine.

silly woman, that's clearly the deadily Assault Rifle-15. Called such 'cause it can kill 15 people with 1 pull of the trigger with a high capacity clipazine.

I have three PST scopes. The HST uses the same glass (according to Google) so I think you'll be pleased. The 4-16x is a good do-all power range, though that's the one I don't have. I have a 2.5-10x, 1-4x and the 6.5-24 or whatever. Look the scope over well when you get it. Check for canted reticles, paint/glue flecks in your FOV, etc. if you see any issues, don't mount it and call Vortex. They will repair or replace their stuff no questions asked, because defects do slip through.

Had a blast at the range yesterday. I was afraid at my age/eyes, that it would be pointless to fine tune the mbus on both rifles.

The mbus pro model are great as you dont need a tool for the front sights. So no fumbling. Just turn the centerpost knob. Same as the rear.

I have the standard mbus on the ACR and left my tool at home....or so i thought. I didnt get to sight it in but windage from factory was spot on so aiming 6 in above the target produced excellant results.

    25 yrds/iron sights, standing.
The Tavor actually feels like it shoots better than my Steyr Aug a3/sa but i like the way my AUG felt in my hands a bit better than the SAR.

I was going back and forth about the magnification level, but the 3-9 on my 30-30 just isn't good enough (IMO) for small (4"x4") plates past 200 yards.

I will definitely look it over when I get it, gonna have a smith mount it because I don't have a gun vise or In-Lb torque wrench.

You don't really need a tool for the front MBUS, you can use the tip of a bullet to push down the detent and turn the post assembly.
