Did you just lift the back, or did you do the front also?

I loosened the front bolts during the installation, but just put the spacers in the back.

See thats because they are done by line shops and manufactures. Completely different set of standards. When you don't blast your parts, outgas them, over or undershoot MIL thickness, and you fail to meet cure schedules that WILL happen. It's something custom shops have been dealing with forever. Its the same reason powder coated trailers fail. If you don't blast to get all the mill scale, grease, oils, etc out of the metal before you coat it is WILL fail.

This frame will be coated correctly, its what I do for a living. It will be getting blasted, outgassed, zinc primed, epoxy primed, then coated in an architectural grade satin black. That black alone is rated to 3000+ hours of salt spray on a 5% solution. The epoxy layer is an extra layer of durability and chemical resistance. The zinc is an epoxy based powder with an extremely high concentration of zinc powder. So even if I did manage to scratch though 3 coats of powder, the zinc prevents any rust from spreading beyond that point.

Its not a powder coating problem, its a lazy company problem who only has $$$ in their eyes rather than quality. Its basically the difference between KIA and Morgan cars. Or maybe a little more something to yours experience, factory auto paint compared to a high end custom hot rod painter. Any factory painted car that is not hand made is going to be covered in orange peel and it looks horrible. Yet you don't judge all paint jobs on what that garbage the factory puts out. You know that if you go to some of the best custom guys out there that paint will look like glass. It will be flawless with no orange peel, dry spray, over spray, and it will meet MIL specs every time.

Here this just shows its flexibility and durability over paint even on a surface that cannot be prepped or blasted. This was shot on a piece of tin foil straight off the roll.

If you would like I would be happy to do a blast test for you. I can show you just how long it takes to actually wear through quality and correctly applied/cured powder in comparison to paints and other coatings. What you deal with I would consider at best glorified paint. Its probably not even run though an oven I wouldn't be surprised if they are using IR lamps or a Xiom System. Xioms are neat if you want something a bit stronger than paint, but it will never compare with traditional powder applied at designed and correctly. It never actually has the chance to fully cure. It was designed to get something stronger than paint to onsite applications or applications where an oven wasn't feasible or they did not want to use IR lamps.

What is the price point on a job like you're talking about vice a regular joe shmo shop?

EDIT: Just realized you were talking about the whole frame. What about something simpler like a front plate bumper?

I haven't done shit to my Taco, and I feel horrible. However, I am saving up for a frontrunner roof rack, still contemplating the snorkel, and have some Rigid led lights I still need to mount to my rear bumper.

It would be hard to give you a price difference between what I described and some regular guy. Mainly because those fly by night shops do not even have the capacity to do a frame, more often than not they cannot even do a bumper.

To accurately quote anything, especially frames and bumpers I would need to see pictures, have measurements, weight, current finish, etc. If you PM me all that information I would be happy to get you numbers.

I don't actually have anything to be PC'd, I was just curious if it was say $300 for Joe to do it and $15,000 for you to do it, or something nuts like that. Thanks though!

No no, nothing like that. Some guy off the street that is a "professional" will probably charge someone $150-200 to coat a raw bumper in satin or textured black. Chances are it wont get blasted at that price. So throw on another $50 if they even have the equipment to handle that. Ball park something like I mentioned on a bumper (I will not do a bumper or any part that will see that much abuse any other way unless a waiver is signed and the warranty is cut down), somewhere in the $500-550 range if it came in raw. There are a lot of other steps I didn't mention that most skip, as well as 3 coats of powder, and spec'd blasting that gets you to that price. So in reality is it really worth going to the cheap guy to have it flake and peel later?

That's my view on it. Sadly most people are cheap and they will go with the guy with the lower price and significantly lower standards of quality. I see it every day, even more so when their parts show back up here for me to fix. So moral of the story is don't be cheap, do it right the first time. You will save money and time just going to the shop you should have in the first place. I have some videos that show what inferior coating looks like. Where I can peel it off with my finger nails or it comes off like spray paint in a blaster

Other than the camper, I stacked parts for about four years before I started modding the truck. Take your time and find out what best suits your needs so that you only have to cry when you open your wallet once.

Will do. I am thinking of angling it more downward as the present angle directs it more towards the radiator. These lights are meant to be wired in parallel so a second light is an easy add-on.

That old lady is thankful too. She even commented that she hasn't seen a package or box delivered with truck parts in a long time.
