Ok guys I read all this topics about buyers complaining about their 3rd gen taco. Trans fluid low, squeaks, dry up zeros, bla bla bla. Everyone upset with Toyota corporate service because they won't fill up or check you transmission fluid etc. Still you'll keep purchasing the truck lol. If you guys want Toyota to take care of this issues, Toyota won't do **** about it because the truck Keeps selling like hot pancakes, guys here complaint about the truck they keep buying it. I personally think it's unacceptable to but a 40k+ truck that's not properly top off on fluid. Just my 2cent you want Toyota to start paying attention then you need to hit Toyota were it hurts sales!!!.

Well, I had so many issues with my '16 4x4 Ltd that I traded it in after 9 months of ownership, especially since Toyota said the buzziness in the steering and the gas pedal/floorboard was "functions as designed" (so I guess it was designed t put my hands and arms to sleep on long trips?). Sent them (I had a case number), and the dealership where I've purchased over a DOZEN Toyotas, a letter and told them that they've lost my business. Never heard a response back from either. Not sure that they care because, as you say, the Tacoma is still selling quite well. It'll only be fixed if/when they lose their sales leadership in this category, IMHO.

People keep buying the Tacoma because at the current time, despite its problems, it's still perceived as the best available in the segment.

Choosing between Tacoma, Canyorado, or Frontier...

Canyorado: Perceived poor GM build quality and reliability, questionable off road capability (for those who off road)

Frontier: Dated design outside and inside, though other than that it's actually a good truck (but very thirsty, worse than many fullsize V8's)

Tacoma: Sterling Toyota reputation and resale based on past models. If someone had never researched this generation's issues, they would buy the Toyota without a second thought purely on reputation.

Right now Toyota doesn't even have to try. Things will likely change pretty soon though when Ford reenters with the Ranger and Nissan redesigns the Frontier (high chance of a Cummins diesel).

The Canyorado twins are still establishing their reputation and are selling at a high percentage of plant capacity. In my area I see 3 or 4 Canyorados for every 1 2016 Tacoma, though to be fair the GM twins have been out a year longer.

If Ford drops the 2.7 Ecoboost V6 into the new Ranger, it will clobber the midsize market.

Edit: I forgot about Jeep reentering the midsize truck market.
A midsize truck with coil sprung live axles front and rear will immediately put the Tacoma's off road capability in second place.

GM is already making big gains on Tacoma sales in the last few months. Toyota rested on their laurels and reputations from the 1990's for the gen 3.

and you gotta know Ford isn't put the capability of the Ranger too close to that of the F-150. That would cannibalize f150 sales for them. Full size trucks make bigger profits so full size trucks get cooperate priority.

Isn't that what they also did with the 2nd gen when it rolled out? They sold a bunch of them too so I guess they just stick with what works.

You have more careful buyers now that research their intended purchase before buying. Auto forums are more prevelant than ever for information and communication than 10 years ago. These issues may scare the informed buyer away. Time will tell.

Totally agree, it looks good so buy it it's a Toyota. Toyota does not care about Customer Loyalty they don't need to. Otherwise they wouldn't release a new Generation riddled with problems. Shit they are still dealing with the 2005 to 2015 leaf spring garbage.
