My first addition to my truck is going to be a roof rack. I got the 2016 DCSB. I will use the rack primarily to haul some smaller kayaks for kids (6'), a longer hybrid kayak/SUP (11') in the summer and then potentially skis in the winter. I may also consider getting a cargo box or cage to out bags up on too for camping trips. After looking around, I have narrowed down to OEM and Yakima rack system. I plan on installing myself.

I have been doing some research here and have a couple questions:
    1. I read where some folks had some installation problems with OEM racks and a gap at the base seal that caused leaking on 2nd generation. If I remove tape seal, does it create a hole in the roof that could allow water into truck on 3rd gen and does anyone have luck getting the rack to fit? This hole makes me lean towards Yakima.
    2. Anyone have experience with Yakima system? How bad is the noise? I was debating on whether to get Core bars or JetStream bars. I prefer to not go with fairing but could if noise was issue. Any experience?
    3. Do hooks on Yakima system cause any problems with door gaskets or does it just fit fine with no issues?
    4. I have had Thule in the past but it looks like they have no options for 3rd gen. Anyone find a Thule system to work?

    Thanks in advance!

I just put on the Jet Stream bars, I got the 60in ones, so I can carry both kayaks next to each other.
I also used the new streamline base feet, not the old Q towers.
I am very happy with them, they are very quiet. I can't hear them up there and I have no fairing.
On my old 4Runner I had to get a fairing the noise was so bad with my Thule square bars.
For whatever reason Yakima lists different fit kits and measurements for 2015 and 2016 Tacomas. I bought the fit kit for the 2016s, but found the measurements and specs listed for the 2015 in the instructions fit better than what they had listed for 2016. Not sure why they did this, both can roofs should be identical.image.jpgimage.jpg
Let me know if you have anymore questions about them.

Thanks, Victory. Those pics of yours has me just about convinced to go Yakima. Looks sharp! I like the looks of the 60" over the 50" bars too, especially so I can cart around multiple kayaks. Thanks for the heads up on the fit kits. We have an REI near us, so I will order both '15/'16 kits and take back the one that doesn't fit.

2016 fit kit fits just fine, just don't rely on their measurements they give you during setup, the measurements they list for 2015 fit better for me during setup, but of course expect a little tweaking to get them perfect anyway.

Ok. That is good to know. I'll order the 2016 kit and check the dimensions for the older model. Thanks!

Purchased from RackAttack.com, they had 10% off in June.
This is what my email confirmation looked like, I don't have any other part numbers besides what is listed for the baseclips.

I ended up going with the Yakima with the short 50" silver bars because I liked the way it looked with the chrome accents on the truck.

Did you find that the back bars fit better than the front bars with the standard dimensions they provided? I used theirs but I may tweak the front more? Overall I am happy with them and not much noise noticed so far.

The back definitely fit better with less tweaking, I tweaked the front measurements a few times until I hit the sweet spot. I noticed they had different measurements for the 2016 and 2015. I found the 2015 measurements were a better starting point than the 2016s. The back for fine with less tweaking, I don't remember though if I started with 2015 or 2016 measurements on the back bar.

They look good, can't go wrong with the silver or the black on Gray.

I bought everything for a 2016, but they still give you both measurements in the fit kit package. I doubt there is much if any difference in the actual fit kit between the years. The roofs themselves are the same.

Right around $490 full price from REI. I am an REI member with REI credit card, so I will eventually get 15% dividend back on that. I could not find Yakima stuff on sale anywhere. They did not have black cross bars and their website said they were out of stock.

Once you got the hang of it, it would take probably 30 minutes to put back on and less to take off. Probably not intended to take off and on all the time from what I saw from installation.

Update here - Nevermind the above. I just went and tweaked the front bars and it went much quicker. You can get them on and off in 5 min once you get hang of it.

I guess it depends on your function. That rack would not be more functional for me. For me what I have is more functional for what I use it for. I need crossbars that extend past the truck (60inches) to carry kayaks side by side, and small sailboats. When carrying something that I can't scratch, just two crossbars is easier to pad than all those on your rack.
The Yakima rack still works great for lumber as well.

I can see for some people that Prinsu rack may work better for them, but I don't need the function of carrying smaller gear and bags that I assume that rack is set up for. It is also too narrow for me, looks like it could make more noise, (they mention adding a fairing for an additional cost) and take more of a hit to MPGs than the Yakima. Also once I get powder coating and a fairing to keep it quiet, it will be a good $200 more than I paid.

I just put a set of rhino racks on mine. Assembly and fitment was easy. I think they look pretty good. I can get a picture tomorrow in daylight. I'll be doing a 4hr drive with two SUPs in a couple of weeks. Will have some more feedback then.
